Visiting other Catholic Churches

Thanks for the correction about the GIRM. I don’t understand why a bishop would make that decision. If they want people to become more aware of Jesus’ Real Presence in the Mass, one would think they would want them to maintain that posture once the Real Presence has been confected. Does anyone know what the justification is for opting out of kneeling?

I’m in western washington too, and many at my parish kneel after the Agnus Dei anyway. Our priest has never said anything about it, but then again we are a more traditional parish than any for a fair distance.

Not in this part of the west coast. Our Bishop has made it clear that, if we are physically able to, we must kneel. Also, he requires us to show a sign of reverence (at a minimum bowing) before receiving the Eucharist. Whether or not this is followed in every parish in the diocese is another story. My parish does follow it. We even have some parishioners that genuflect before receiving the Eucharist.

On second thought, maybe they need your bishop more over there on the left coast. It is nice to hear that he is requiring some sort of reverence in his parishes.

I attend pretty traditional parish too. What part of Washington are you in?
