Hello everyone

Im feeling more drawn in towards the religious life and have been offered to go on a vocation retreat weekend with The Marians of The Immaculate Conception.

Could everyone please give me there vocation retreat experiences etc.

What did you do ? how did it go ? how were you treated ? where did you sleep ? where you nervous ? Did they ask you back ? what was your daily schedule ? how many people where in your group etc.

Any other experiences welcome.

And what is psychological evaluations ?

Thankyou everyone.

I’ve done several vocations retreats with various communities. The schedule depends on the community but, it will include time in prayer such as the liturgy of the hours, the rosary, holy hours, etc. Much time will be offered for you to simply interact and ask questions in a relaxed setting. You’ll likely have daily Mass, usually in the morning. Recreation time may be offered. There may also be a chance of actually working with the members of the community. I visited a homeless shelter with the CFR’s, cleaned up the kitchen with the Capuchins after dinners, and did some yard work around the abbey church with the Benedictines.

During my visits I stayed with the community. I had my own room, access to their library, chapel, and had priests available for reconciliation and spiritual direction. There were around 3 to 5 guys attending each visit I went on.

We were treated great. The friars, monks and priests went out of their way to assist us throughout the retreats. They like to keep in contact after the retreat ends and to continue offering support. The experience is meant to be a glimpse into the life of religious. Yeah, some guys are nervous meeting a bunch of religious, but every one of my retreats went great and everyone involved was as nice as can be.

The psych evaluation is something you’ll do if you start the official application to enter an order, religious community or diocesan seminary. They’re long and detailed, but not that bad. Honestly, the physical exam was worse for me because of my fear of needles.

Hope this helps,

Lance

After much prayer and discernment I decided to seek admission as a diocesan seminarian. I’ve been accepted and I report to Saint Meinrad School of Theology 3 weeks from today to begin my first year of pre-theology studies.

I cannot deny that I felt a draw towards the particular charisms of the communities I visited. But, in the end what weighed most on my mind during prayer was the need for good priests in my archdiocese. But, Saint Meinrad is also a Benedictine Archabbey and I will have the opportunity to be in close contact with the monks, some of whom will be my instructors.

I will keep you in my prayers.

Celtic1967, I haven’t been on any retreats yet, but am going on one in November and will let you know how it goes.

It all depends on the community. I did three actual retreats with three different communities.

The psychological evaluation is a part of the application process. You will not be invited into the application process until you go on a vocation retreat and the community gets to know you.
