I’m sure most folks here saw the Fishers of Men video that came out a couple of years ago. Anybody know if there’s a comparable video for women’s religious?
You have one from Arlington, TX!?!?!?! The Carmelites!?!?Women’s monasteries and convents are more apt at producing videos than the men’s sector of the vineyard. Fishers of Men was likely produced because there wasn’t anything out there for men.
Here at Cloister Outreach, we have a stack of videos which are okay for local use, but one would just about have to knock on monastery doors to see if there are any videos available for parish use. What we have came from the Carmels of Port Tobacco, MD (3); Arlington, TX (1); and the Cistercian nuns in Wisconsin (1).
One video of my particular liking was “The Real St. Therese” which was shot on location in Lisieux, France. Two nuns with great veils escorted the cameraman through the monastery. The DVD should be available from Leaflet Missal Company.
The Trappistines of Wrentham, MA, produced a DVD on their way of life. However, I’m not sure if they still do that.
Braverman films produced a video on the closure of the Parkersburg, WVa, Visitation Monastery, called “Breaking Silence.” A lifetime lease of the tape costs about $100.
My 2 cents.

Cloisters
I haven’t seen one like Fishers of Men, but If you go to YouTube and type in the search bar “The Cloister and Discernment” you’ll find a 2 part documentary that showed on ABC on 20/20, I think a couple years ago. Diane Sawyer interviews the nuns and there is a few women who you’ll meet that are thinking of joining and you’ll find out at the end if they did or not. I thought the footage was beautiful. If you haven’t seen it, maybe you’ll want to look into it. The video quality is a little blurry but you can still see it. Or you can search for it on another website. They actually have quite a few Nun videos on YouTube that are really nice.I’m sure most folks here saw the Fishers of Men video that came out a couple of years ago. “A Right to be Merry” is a completely awesome book!
