Vocation vs. Profession -- what is the difference?

What is the difference between religious vocation and religious profession? Are they one and the same?

Background:
I understand Vocation comes from the Latin word Vocare which means “to call.” I am under the impression that the priests and nuns are called by our Lord to serve, so it is appropriate to say priesthood is the vocation they chose to answer the call etc. But, today I saw a post in facebook by a priest referring to his vocation as profession. Is priesthood a profession?
 
In short: a vocation is something you are, a profession is something you do.

Sometimes a priest might use vernacular slang to try and make what they’re saying more relatable to others. I can’t really comment further since I don’t know the context of what he said.
