To all

Does anyone out there know of a Cloistered, Contempllative Womens order that acceptes women over 50?

Awaiting answers prayerfully.:gopray:

Monastery of the Visitation of Holy Mary
1745 Parkside Bl.
Toledo, Ohio 43607

My aunt went when she was in her late 60’s. They are accepting “later” callings. If it weren’t for John Paul the Great, they wouldn’t have let the later callings in.👍 Do not be afraid, answer the call. Make the call.

Do you remember which monastery? And was it contemplative?

The address is above. Yes, it is contemplative and cloistered. They usually don’t receive later callings but they have been lately. My aunt have said in her letters that there are a few new ladies that just came in that was 40 and 50 something. If you will like, I have the Phone #. I can email it to you. I have been there, it is beautiful. I couldn’t go in obviously, but I can tell it is wonderful. It is close by the University of Toledo. Don’t be afraid to find out about the place. Peace:o

I had been slated for entrance there on July 16, 1987, but my sister in TN said she needed a house and pet sitter while everyone went on vacation.

Obviously, my entrance didn’t come to pass, but the Toledo Visitation still holds a huge place in my heart.

If that doesn’t work out, you can email me about communities who accept over 45 vocations. Our proposed communities will accept “late” vocations.

Thank you for the information, the phone number woujld be a great blessing.

But I am looking more in the southern states. Can’t handle the cold anymore. I broke my ankle several years ago and the metal holding it together makes walking difficult in the cold, how ever with the Lord’s help I percervier.

All of our proposed charisms will be in the South. As you can see by my forum ID, I’m in NC.

Perhaps if you contact the Visitation sisters and explain that to them, they could direct you to some contemplative communities who are in warmer spots.

While contemplatives don’t get out much, I have found they are well networked!

There are a number of orders in the south which appear to be open to older candidates.

Dominican Nuns in Menlo Park CA, Los Angeles, CA and Marbury AL.–go to www.or.org look for nuns in the USA

Carmelite Nuns in Covington LA, Little Rock, AK (www.littlerockcarmel.org-0this order seems especially nice),

Covington, LA (www.ettinger.net/carmelcov

San Diego (gorgeous!) www.carmelsandiego.com, also seems very nice,

Santa Clara (gorgeous also!) geocities.com/santaclaracarmel@sbcglobal.net/vocation1.html

In Hialeah, Florida (305) 558-7122-no information

Poor Clares in Greenville, SC–very nice, building a new monastery

OSB Benedictines in Tickfaw, LA- small, prob. open to older candidates (most oxb’s up north)

None of these orders mention age limits and pictures on their sites show a number of older members.

Meet the Intercessors of the Lamb - “hermits”

One of these dear sweet ones in my aunt’s mother-in-law. I give them credit for our conversion. It was our daughter that experienced healing from CMTC and shows not sign of irregular growth patterns now. These sweet ones pray for her healing and I suspect our conversion too. My wife’s fomrer faith would not have anything to do with prayer from anyone that was not a member of the Lord’s church…the church of Christ [Alexander Campbell early church restoration movement]. It’s possible they accept older people. They are a community of men and women.

Marilyn,

The Poor Clares near you in South Carolina are at:
www.poorclaressc.com…they have two postulants who look ‘mature’.

There’s a Visitation in Snellville GA in traditional habit whoich doesn’t have a website, but which has descriptions at a blog and local newspaper article:

kellywegelphoto.blogspot.com/2007/08/story-monastic-life.html

georgiabulletin.org/local/1984/07/19/a/

Websites for southern Dominican nuns:

Menlo Park, CA op,org/nunsmenlo

Los Angeles, CA www.op-stjoseph.org/nuns/angels

Marbury AL www.stjudemonastery.org

And sorry for the mistake in the listing of the LIttle Rock Carmel:

www.littlerockcarmel.org

And in Louisiana ,
the Benedictines at Tickfaw;
