Has anyone ever done something like this? Can someone give me some good leads on how to do this? Even a really specific suggestion would be appreciated. It doesn’t HAVE to be that kind of volunteer work but it’s an area I was gravitating towards. Thanks!!

Jamal what country are you thinking of? There is a big scam on orphanage tourism and donating in some countries. The Children are not orphans nut taken from their homes and put n an orphanage for this scam. I will find a link

Thanks R. ! I’m thinking of going where God might want me. India would be interesting or the middle east. Anywhere really!

I will likely go through very established channels. Thanks for the warning. I think the Catholic organizations will be less likely to fall into such a trap as you mention but I shall remember your caveat.

I’m really good with kids, I think. Working in an orphanage setting is just idea, though. I’m not set on any one thing really.

I would hope that some more people might reply. I did meet someone just today though who helps two months every year at an orphanage in Ghana for children with some sort of problem that parents do not, will not, or cannot deal with at home.

Alternatively, education and refugee assistance is something that is attractive. I have some medical knowledge so that’s a possibility.

Then there are secular organizations like the Red Cross but I don’t know much about them yet.
