I am sitting here laughing at this whole thing. I guess the best thing is stop worrying what other people are doing in church and concentrate on what’s the real reason for YOUR being there.

And if YOU don’t believe in Voodoo, don’t worry, all the hexes in the world won’t matter.

To me it seems the biggest problem is what is occuring in your marriage and that is what you should be focused on.

Stop worrying about some oddball chants and pieces of clothing.

I wouldn’t be so quick to quickly dismiss the effects of voodoo. It is demonic and not only paganistic…nothing to laugh at! :tsktsk:

you do realize that we cannot provide marriage counselling on these forums, and the problems you are describing have more to do with rebuilding faith and trust in your marriage than arguing the origins of voodoo. If you don’t believe in that nonsense it has no power over your, but if your husband does not believe in the sanctity of marriage you have bigger problems. good luck, we will be praying for you.

I still think that if the woman follows you to church in order to steal items of your clothing then you have more to worry about then voodoo. What happens when she realizes that her magical nuttiness has no effect on you? She might leave you alone or she could get violent. You don’t know. Go to the police and file a report. The woman sounds like she has emotional problems that have nothing to do with voodoo.Just for the record, I don’t believe that this woman has any power, but she might be dangerous in other ways.

 I do want to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers.
I am going to make an appt. with our priest and I’m taking my
husband with me! We will settle this thing once in for all. I will ask
for Fathers advice, I do trust him deeply, and since I have only
been a Catholic for less than 3 years, I have pulled out everything
that I was given during RCIA classes and gone back to studying.
Matter of fact I am going to ask if can attend the RCIA classes
this year just to keep on learning. There might be a question asked in this class that was not asked when I was going. Every-
day is a learning experience for me in this faith, and I love it!

God Bless,
Justice 😃

I agree, just because we don’t believe in it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. There are a great many people out there who have troubles, illnesses, etc. that are unexplainable or they can never get better. Just like there is good there is evil all around us…so keeping away from her and not letting her anywhere near your belongings is best…better to be safe than sorry. My prayers are with you, my marriage is barely hanging on too 😦 .

I guess I just believe in the strength of the Catholic faith. Not someone chanting hexes and cutting someone clothes. I agree with the poster who said the woman has problems that may not be related to voodoo and that’s what you should be worried about.

There is a great spiritual war going on. Yes, it is true that the Catholic Church is powerful because Jesus is the Head. BUT many problems arise and things are not usually so simplictic.

When I was in an exorcism for 5 years, I made sure that everything that was given to me as a gift from the victim was thrown away. The same with the victim: she was told to throw anything away that may have had a hold on her from her bondage in the past. This was extremely important. The victim, through the evil spirit, would give her information about me and my family through divination. And if that existed for me, it surely existed for the priest involved…

Do not underestimate the power that ‘things’ may have. No different than a crucifix, a rosary, a bible…

The problems this woman may have had, according to you, may not be related to voodoo. It could very well be that her problems have come about because of her dabbling in voodoo…

How were you involved in the exorcism? And why was it a five year ordeal?

Talk to the priest about it. Read up on your faith and read up on Voodoo so you know what you are dealing with.

Voodoo is a bastardisation of the Catholic faith. Voodoo uses some of Catholicism in their rituals and the like. It also infused it with Indian/African beliefs.
I believe that you are confusing Voodoo with Santaresta. I dealt with both as AIDS/HIV (and morgue) Chaplain in the Jersey City N.J. Medical Center as many new immagrants to the NYC Metro area suffer from combinations of the three. Voodoo is actually usually practiced in it’s pure state as imported from Niger I believe. Santaresta is mostly a Carabean and Gulf States phenonimum. It emmerged when slaves hid African religious practices under a Catholic veneer. Both are anamistic, as as the practitioner seeks to gain control over spirits, are considered witchcraft and have been forbidden since the early Hebrew YHWHst cult. The immediate danger lies in Santaresta, in which the consecrated host is subject to theft and desecration :hmmm: . I would suggest that as the practices of the person in question cannot be gaged, precautions for the security of the Body of Christ be taken.

Saleen,

Welcome to the Catholic Answers Forums. I think I saw that you have five posts here, of which I gather two are actually from your wife. I wish you great joy and wisdom here.

I was asked by a priest to join him due to the gifts that the Spirit has blesed (?) me with. We were a group of 2 women, the priest and the victim was a woman. All was blessed by the local bishop. Then, we joined another group of people blessed by the bishop of that diocese.

Why was it 5 years? Only God knows that…I have no answer to give you. All I know, she is okay now and leading a holy life…
