The internet is not evil. Pumpkins are evil.
It’s not evil…curmudgeon’s are evil, however! 😃

Doesn’t that ring with “guns don’t kill people, people kill people”?
The internet hasn’t created more evil, only propogated the evil already in existence.
If you’re angry, don’t pick up a gun.
If you’re attracted to porn and other evils, stay off those sites.
If a TV show offends you, turn it off.
It’s called self control. Granted, not everyone practices it. So, who’s fault is that?

It definitely has made a parents job harder. The **** out there and the ways our children can be exploited is scary and worrisome. Sometimes it seems that you can’t control it all because it is so massive.

My son recently confided in me that he saw the execution of Nicholas Berg on the internet. He is 19 and couldn’t sleep for two days. Not to mention the porno sites and the natural curiousity of youth. We aren’t talking about pictures of pretty naked women. There is some pretty bad hardcore stuff out there and it is frightening. I once was trying to go to a sesame street web-site and suddenly an explicit sex scene was all over my screen. It made me sick to my stomach. I just wonder why typing sesame street would bring me there. This is one of the things I mean by how badly it expoits our children.

I often wonder if we are paying too high a price for all the necessary things and often good things that are becoming so much a part of our lives in regards to the internet.:hmmm:

Yep, it’s right at your finger tips. Don’t have to go out in the cold anymore, go to any dives or worry will anyone recognize my car.

I think that if you are in the dark at some of the expressions used on the forums you best get over to the crazy internet junksite and the crumudgeons or you will be left wondering what we are talking about. You’d have to be there!

I love the internet, and it is the best thing since sliced bread. However, I do monitor my kids well during preteen and teen years.
They think everyone is their friend.

The internet doesn’t create evil. Satan does. Darn that Satan anyway, always messing in the fun places to confuse the innocent or ignorant.

I think it’s brought the evil that’s already out there closer. But I think it’s also brought the good.

Like this forum, other Catholic sites , I’ve learned so much to aid in my RCIA training.
online shopping - can’t get enough I live in the boonies, I save tons of gas money!
I’ve meet some really great friends over at another forum I’m on, and that wouldn’t have happened without the internet.
Homework help - I help my kids with their report on the internet (I’m there the whole time) and it’s been immeasurably helpful
research- my son has a disability and what I’ve been able to find on the internet really taught me a lot.

But yes, the evil that exists in the world didn’t just happen with the invention of the internet, it’s just easily accessable through it. So we have to be more aware, and one step ahead.

internet does create some evil like remote computer hacking, but it creates more good than evil. without it I won’t be a Catholic

The internet is there…how you use it is entirely up to you…and if you have been getting ‘bad’ sites by mistake…you can block bad sites and never have to worry about running in to them by mistake…trust me…there are ways around them…anyways…we are here because of the internet…so go figure…we are ok…arent we?:hmmm:

But you have the advantage of Church teaching. All that accesibility to all those who do not have teaching like the theology of the body, what guides do they have? They are easy prey to a culture that objectifies the human being on one hand and on the other hand they are a few clicks away from examples of where that objectification leads: How to guides for depravity.

I do not think we have seen the full impact of this. The first computer generation is coming up and the first internet enabled generation is following closely behind to adulthood.

Look at the coarsening of cable TV. This is spiritually serious: How we view each other. I dunno. I don’t like to get apocalyptic, but it’s getting easier to tell the goats from the sheep and I think if it weren’t for the Church, I’d be in a heap of trouble.

just my 2 cents

Bingo!
I look at the Internet as a gift from God because he created the person(s) who came up with it. AND the ability to use it for His Glory. However, even Satan has to get his grubby lilttle paws all over it, unfortunately.

I have learned more about my Catholic faith from the Internet, and I wouldn’t able to listen to EWTN or Catholic Answers Live if it wan’t for the Internet.

The Internet has become SO important in our lives that I call it just as important to us as another Utility payment (dial-up/Cable/or DSL).

God IS with Us!

I think the best thing the internet has done has been to allow more people the chance to work from home and become finacially independent.

Amen to that. At least we agree on SOMETHING. Financial freedom rocks. Who wants to sit all day in a dumb cube farm anyways.

Just don’t try to be cute and say anything else I will agree with and thereby be forced to actually start liking you. :whacky:

I don’t beleive the internet is evil. The people who put rotten stuff out there are. If they didn’t have the internet, they would do it in other ways - ways MUCH scarier than a little website. At least there is a power button on my computer! 🙂

I have to agree here! My husband is in the military, and I am lucky enough to keep my corporate job by working at home on my computer (while in remote places). If it wasn’t for the net, there is no way we could afford him serving our country!
