Matt241

Guest
I have a little devotional space set up in my bedroom, with a cloth on which stands a statue of the Good Lord one one side of a crucifix and a statue of the Blessed Mother on the other. I always burn a votive candle each morning beside the crucifix. Recently I ran out of votive candles, and I didn’t have the money to buy more until today.

But during that time I felt anxious and so alone, like the world was closing in on me, and suffocating me. I could not concentrate on anything and felt as if I were coming apart. I lit a candle as soon as I could today, and the anxiousness disappeared. I don’t know if any of you can recount similar experiences, but this thought came to me earlier this afternoon. This isn’t a “prayer request”, but as I’m serving at Mass tomorrow morning, I will make a special visit to Our Lady’s Altar to pray for all your intentions.

Thank you, I will pray for you too.

But please understand that if you cannot light the candle for any reason, you should not feel anxious. You can just say a rosary or some other prayers of your choice, or read Scripture, and God will be right there. I know it’s hard when our prayer routine gets disturbed, but there is nothing magical about those candles. If you had no money to buy them, or if the stores ran out and you couldn’t get any, or if you couldn’t light a candle because of a fire hazard, etc. it does not in any way diminish the presence of God or make your prayer less efficacious. So please be careful not to fall into any trap of superstitious thinking regarding candles or any other physical object.

You could be thrown in prison with no candle, no rosary, no nothing, and you could pray and God would still be right there as close as He is when you light the candle.

Lord Jesus, lead all souls to heaven
especially those most in need of thy mercy.

Our Father…Hail Mary x10
Glory Be…Fatima Prayer…Amen!

There IS something comforting about a candle, isn’t there? As it says in the Bible we are not to hide our candle under a basket, and as it also says in genesis, the Lord said, “Let there be light” and there was. Without light there would be no life as we know it. Light is ‘creation.’
Candles are expensive and dangerous at times. This is what I suggest. Buy the ‘electric’ candles that look so much like wax candles and also flicker like wax candles. The are inexpensive and last a long time. I get mine at the 99 cent store. You can still have a wax candle for special days or occasions, but do be really careful with any open flames.
Even 'though you didn’t ask for prayers, I will pray for you. Peace and comfort in the Light of the Lord.

The real candle is in your heart. It is the light of Christ always within you. Carry it wherever you go.

Thank you Matt241, I am praying for your intentions as well! 😃

:gopray:

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Glory Be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning is now ever shall be world without end
Amen.

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession, was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy, hear and answer me. Amen

Praying, in Jesus’ name, that God continue to be with the OP and make His presence and love known to the OP, candle or no candle. My Jesus, mercy.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, Pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
