Votive/Ritual Masses Readings

If using readings from the Mass for Peace and Justice instead of the regular weekday readings, should the first reading be from the Old Testament or the New Testament? I’m asking because the Ritual/Votive Mass book lists many different OT and NT readings. Does the first reading have to be strictly from the OT, or could one choose to use a reading from the NT?

Thank you. I just wasn’t sure if there were any specific guidelines regarding if the reading had to be from the OT or NT.
