Hi, It’s already the third time I post a thread on the same subject here but I have another question… I hope people are not going to throw rocks at me for being so persistant in it (and sorry if the sentence looks weird english is not my native language, it looks alright in my native language).
I remember one day, I thought about making a promise to God (I thought the words so) and right after I said “yes” (to the promise so, without telling aloud “to the promise” just yes). Now I know that you have to tell it aloud for a promise to God to be binding if it is, but do you think the fact I said yes aloud made it binding?

I already see a priest who help me a lot and he doesn’t believe you can make promise to God and that isn’t a sin if you break them but then, I read that others priest say promises are important… Maybe the country has an influence, I live in Europe and it seems people takes promises to God less seriously here.
I’m also already on medication for my scrupulosity and seeing a doctor… So if people could help me again I would be really gratefull!

If you have scruples you should not be entertaining promises. It will not profit you. Try to be a good person, and if you fail, go to confession. Loving God should not cause you problems.
Be at peace.

thank you pianistclare :). But do you think the promise is binding if I said yes aloud?

You have already spoken with your priest.
You need to follow what your priest said.
if you went to the doctor and he gave you medical advice, it would be wrong to be repeatedly coming onto a forum of strangers and asking them their opinion.
Same for the priest.

thank you again Tis_Bearself :). I know that it’s more important to believe my priest and the doctor but can’t you tell me what you think of it? if “the yes” make it binding or not for you?

No, I am not going to second-guess your priest.
That would be disrespectful to him and would only add to your own confusion.
God bless

my own confusion? :/. Does it mean you think the “yes” is binding? sorry if that sounds rude I don’t want it to be really.

You did not make any vow. Period. This is a medical, and not a moral issue. Find something healthy to occupy your mind. Do you know how many good books there are to read?

God doesn’t operate like that. If you are ill (and you admit you have scruples) you are not culpable, I imagine this is what the priest said.
Why can’t you believe him?

What Paul said is VERY TRUE.

thanks to all. That’s nice of you. I’m going to try and focus on something else, it’s the only solution…

Fr David already answered you here:

Any attempt at a vow, made “out of scrupulosity” is absolutely null and utterly void.

There is nothing to be dispensed.

Canon 1191.

yes but it is wroten out of pure fear in canon 1191. I don’t always feel afraid when I make “vows”. It’s really a strange feeling. I think of it too much(and I can’t help thinking about it) and then I ended up doing mistakes. By the way, I was really happy that a priest respond to my message :D.

You need to listen to the words of your priest-confessor and stop looking for answers on the internet.

FrDavid96 Excuse-me father, when you say "any attempt at a vow, made “out of scrupulosity” is absolutely null and utterly void.

There is nothing to be dispensed.

Canon 1191.

can I ask you which part(paragrapgh) of canon 1191 are you referering to?
