Well that was unexpected (the “988 a.d.” that is, not the “yes”).

In that case, perhaps you could share your knowledge with us a little further, and tell us how old the UGCC is?
As old as the Church of Kyivan-Rus. As for schisms they have faced, I prefer not to comment.

And I wonder if maybe Slipjyi saw the Nazis as being “not as bad” as the Reds. Of course he would have been wrong, but perhaps he saw the Nazis as their liberators from Communism?
My Grandparent’s family welcomed them as liberators… months later these “liberators” turned their guns on my 13 and 15 year old grandparents and brought them to Germany as slaves.

Things were very, very, complicated. In certain circles however, it is popular to paint the Ukrainians as Nazis (especially Western, Ukrainian Speaking Ukrainians), yet they seem to forget all the animosity that existed between the Ukrainians and the Nazis.

Just as it has been for the majority of her history, Ukraine was surrounded by oppressors and enemies on all of her sides.

As far as I know , the activity of Ukrainian Rebelious Army has nothing to do with those who collaborated with the Nazzis
and has nothing to do with Ukrainian freedom movement
Ukrainians used to fight in minority as a heroes , without support , without big brothers , they used to fight in unequal fights against the Nazzis and against the Soviets.
They had an idea !
The idea of free , independent , God fearing nation , the nation which has a God-given rights and freedoms.
Berlin and Moscow had imperialistic apetites to conquer and to enslave the nations.
Therefore the nationalists used to fight against the Nazzis as well .
Actually , the nazzis treatments of Ukrainians in its methods of leading the war , in its manners of leading the war , were no less cruel than NKVD.

I think that , there were the stages in the history of some European countries , when , the soldiers of the Soviet or Nazzi army were meat as the liberators.

I think that in some way , the Nazzis actually were hiding its plans and intentions about the nations statehood of some nations.
Therefore some believed that it is ‘’ lesser evil than Soviets’’

But , those who collaborated with a Nazzis , were critisized and condemned as a traitors.

But I have a different question ;
the ones who used to fight in the Soviet Army , ( those veterans , whome Volodymyr is mentioning ) were they not decieved ?

The problem is that the army veterans did not realize that they used to fight for the imperialistic system as well .

The system which enslaved nations.
They used to fight on the war , and at the same time , their families were terrorized by NKVD in their homes , their wives were forced to work on collective farms slavery , they kids used to work as a slaves day and night for the sake of that ‘’ human hating bolshevik system ‘’.
The system which enslaved nation in one ‘’ prison ‘’
( Ivan Franko , great Ukrainian writer , wrote that that communism is the
''prison of nations ‘’ )

The Ukrainians which used to fight for the ‘‘Soviet paradise’’ , as many other nations of Soviet republics
did not know that they used to fight for the Gulag ?
For the slavery of nations ?
for the millions of families who were deported forcely to Siberia , Asia ( Kazachstan ) ?
for the ‘’ five-years-slave-work-plans’’ , for the new war threats , for the atomic bomb threats ?
for the future prey and spiritual and material pauperization of the countries and nations ?

Not long time ago , in one of Ukrainian cities the monument of Stalin was build.
And as far as I heard even some veterans used to sponsor the project.
They still believe in a Soviet ideals…

I do not know about the preasthood , but the Greek-Catholic preasthood was cruelly persecuted by the Soviets.
because they did not colloborate with NKVD and had very anti-Soviet convictions.

988 a.d. and yes.
The Kyivan church didn’t become a Patriarchate in 988. It was a metropolitan church under the Patriarch of Constantinople. It wasn’t until more recent times that we became a patriarchate.
