Waking up at 3am every night?

You might just be psyching yourself out. Having a new baby is stressful; you may have many things going on.

Just know that demons are nothing compared to God. They are only allowed to continue exist because they serve some purpose, and that it is God’s will that you be safe from them; from all fears and distress, even.

Please no scientific answers.
In other words, if we don’t agree with you that this is something demonic instead of perhaps being caused by your metabolism, what time you go to bed at night, what you eat before bed, what is going on with your bladder, etc. then we should just be quiet.

Oooooookay.

I often wake up at 3 am. It usually has something to do with needing to pee. I don’t think Satan’s behind it, sorry. I also note that when I go to bed at 1 or 2 am I tend to sleep right through the wee hours.

Pray the St. Michael Pray before bed and ideally at 3:00 AM.

The unclean spirit will not like that at all and may well leave you alone once and for all.

P.S. I’m curious if you wake up at 3:00 am on the dot?

Honestly it really is overwhelmingly likely to be natural. The baby waking you up (as others have said, it isn’t a good idea to co-sleep). There have been times and very recently that I’ve felt like I was under demonic attack, but those usually come in the form of temptations and intrusive thoughts and emotions when I’ve woken up for mundane reasons. Talk to your doctor. Poor sleep is going to make it harder to resist the devil.

I’ve been waking up around 3:00 am as well. The thing with me it’s always accompanied by the bleakest of thoughts. For some reason I remember the lowest, most humiliating moments of my life. Little problems I may have at work become exaggerated and seemingly insurmountable, and the challenges of everyday life become resentments.

Come the morning, with the gorgeous light of the desert southwest, hope again reigns supreme. The past is forgotten, and whatever the day hold brings a certain excitement.

So, what’s going on here?

The Ignatius practice of the discernment of spirits tells me that we respond to the bad spirits most when we’re tired. That this goes on in the darkest hour makes me wonder if this is really what I’m experiencing.

There’s some seriously cool Catholics on these boards, the next time this happens to me I’m picking up the beads and fighting back.

We’ll see what happens. A good night’s sleep is a promise of the rosary…

Say the St. Michael prayer, roll over and don’t dwell on it. The prince of lies would love for this to torment you.
Just don’t do it.
Take reasonable steps, such as no caffeine, eat a light supper, don’t watch scary movies, don’t fall asleep by the glow of a computer screen or your cell phone, and if you continue to awaken, pray that prayer. Ask Padre Pio and your guardian angel to help you be at peace.
You will be ok.

That’s happened to me as well, even before I became Catholic. Such episodes tended to pass with time, but I found praying to St. Joseph drastically shortened my last bout a few weeks ago.

It could be God telling you to awake, could be demons, or could just be something irregular or out of balance in your body. It could also be the fact that a child is in your bed and your subconscious is trying to warn you or has a thought in it regarding that. You could have eaten something before bed that is triggering a response when it finally digests or settles, you could have been on an electronic before bed and your mind is somewhat still readjusting. Perhaps it’s something in the air or temperature. There’s lots of scientific/bodily reasons this could be happening.
I would say not to dwell on demonic things and instead pray some Hail Mary’s until you fall asleep, or because it is 3am (I’ve heard it can be done especially at 3am and pm) say a Chaplet of Divine Mercy until you fall asleep or finish it.
If you feel seriously unsafe, ask God and your Guardian Angel’s protection and say “In the Most Holy Name of Jesus, Satan be gone” (I’ve done this when I was afraid and it really helped just knowing Jesus is by my side and He is powerful through the Father!), Signs of the Cross Work too. If these thoughts of demonic activity keep occuring, seek guidance from a priest.
God Bless!

BlockquoteThere are many other explanations for tossing and turning. Everything from a room’s ambient temperature to concerns about job security can disrupt slumber. But if you always wake up right around 3 a.m.—or at some predictable interval after you’ve hit the sack—

I once read that UFO activity is highest at 9 pm and 3 am, with the 3 am peak being the greater of the two. One common theory is that UFOs are demonic.

Pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy when it happens. It’s recommended to pray it at 3 pm and 3 am, but most people aren’t awake at 3 am.

A person can’t say for certain either way. If it is something spiritual, 3:00 am is known as the witching hour.

Devils are known to bother people just because that is what they like to do. You may have done nothing at all. I would not worry about it, though.

Saying the St. Michael prayer is a good strategy to drive them away if it is in fact unclean spirits that are bothering you. Don’t worry about it too much.

Make sure you’re not committing any serious sins, attend mass every Sunday, go to confession regularly. That should be enough, most likely.

I wouldn’t dwell on it. Take one day at a time, and see how things go.

Blessings,

Jamal

Hello. It’s 3:48 here in England, so being awake at odd hours isn’t unusual for me, either. But I’m fully to blame for this in my case, because my sleeping schedule gets all sorts of messed up at times.

All I can offer is that God has allowed it, so it’s an opportunity to offer up some prayers.

If you don’t want me to call your mom, you better get to bed right now.

I too often wake around 3am. I put it down to the fact that my dreams are becoming too scary by then, dreams usually work their way out of impossible situations, but around that time, there is no way out, and I am suddenly awake because the dream went blank.

I am hit by volcanoes, tsunamis, and desperate attempts to get home, when everything wants to stop me doing that.

She’s cremated so she probably won’t be able to physically take the call. 😬 She appreciates prayers, though!

I second all replies who said to pray when that happens and not despair. I used to have that happening to me too. I tried some herbal pills and vitamins and while they helped me get a deeper sleep I would still wake up at 3 am. It stopped after I remembered to just wake up and pray. I was planning to for some time but when I was waking up I coild not remember to pray and other thoughts - worries, reveries - would fill up my head and the good idea would slip.

Sleep patterns change as you get older. This is quite typical for certain people. I wake up at 3 every morning and I’m up for the day, feeling great! Of course that means I go to bed pretty early, but this certainly wasn’t my pattern when I was younger.
This seems a purely biological thing. Try taking melatonin before you go to bed, or increase magnesium.

Could just be your body’s clock. I’ve always been an early to bed, early to rise gal. 2 or 3am. Not demons. Just my natural body rhythms.
