Sorry for repeating myself, but I posted this statement from Wal-Mart early this morning. Judging from the subsequent posts, it got overlooked.

“We at Wal-Mart believe this e-mail between a temporary associate and one of our valued customers was entirely inappropriate. Its contents in no way represent the policies, practices or views of our company. This associate, who was hired less than three weeks ago, is no longer employed by our company,” Fogleman said in an e-mail to the AP.

“Wal-Mart is proud to welcome customers of all faiths, and celebrants of all holidays. We sincerely apologize to any person or organization that was offended by the inappropriate and inflammatory comments made by this former associate.”

And that’s just what I’d expect them to say. No need to over-react and call for boycotts – just go up the supervisory chain with your complaint.

I have to say that I agree here. Last year, I made it a point to say Merry Christmas to every establishment I went to. People were shocked and said they were not allowed to say “Merry Christmas” back to me, instead “Happy Holidays”.

Frankly I find it extremely ridiculous that businesses pander to the PC movement by eliminating Christmas from their stores. However they do not have a problem promoting Christmas before Halloween so they can try to get people to buy early.

Not to change the topic here, but I went on Mary Kay’s website. This is a company that is supposed to be based on Christian principles, and they do not mention Christmas on their website. They too have pandered and now everything is Holiday gifts. I thought that was interesting and goes back to what I was saying earlier.

Personally I do not like shopping at Wal Mart and avoid going there as much as possible.
I think saying “Happy Holidays” is appropriate…but if you say “Merry Christmas” to them its obvious you celebrate the holiday and they should have no problem saying it back. I doubt many non-Christian people are offended by “Merry Christmas”, but I still feel that there is nothing wrong with “Happy Holidays” as America is a diverse country. But, like I said, they shouldnt be banned from saying Merry Christmas if you’ve said it to them.

I think the reason why Bill Donahue focused on WalMart instead of Planned Parenthood is that he is the head of the Catholic Anti-Defamantion League. There are others that focus on abortion and I’m sure that he fully agrees with that. He is focused on discrimination on Catholics & Christians.

Why should he focus on WalMart instead of all the other stores? Its going to get more press. Its going to probably influence more stores than anyother store will. Besides if he can help hurt WalMart, just think what he can do for other stores. If thats not the schwerpunct of stores pretending its not Christmas, when they are profiting off it, I don’t know what else could be.

And the thing is not acknowledging Christmas, seems a bit odd, when it is the reason they have this season when they make their profit for the year.

Some of the Salvation Army folks that are there at my local Supercenter Walmart, they say “God Bless You” when you give them money. Maybe some would say that’s a bad thing, to donate to the Salvation Army, that’s another thread though…

They say that thanking you for giving money, not becaus you sneezed. The weather here is very erratic lately, and many people are getting mild colds. I’m not sure what they would say to someone who sneezed but did not donate money as they walked by.

It distresses me to learn that Walmart would have an employee policy to ban the greeting “Merry Christmas”.

The excuse, after having to clean up the mess caused by the “theology expert”, is inadequate and transparent.

If the company does not rescind this policy they are willing to accept loosing me as a customer (for many years a valuable one). That tells me that their level of dedication to their position is very strong. Why?
Silencing the greeting “Merry Christmas” is not an issue to be ignored. The argument that one would be better off focusing on boycotting support of abortionists is apples and oranges. There are many fronts to fight the slithering evil surfacing all day long.

Spending your money where you feel satisfied (relative to parting with your hard earned money in the first place) belongs to the customer. Why would I shut up about extending a “Merry Christmas” while I am celebrating the Christmas season and not be offended when a store employee is forbidden to share the joy?

A previous comment was made that one wouldn’t want their “reputation” to be ridiculed. WHAT? Somebody needs to see what is before them. Religious persecution slithers fairly fast these days - recognize it for what it is! Last time I looked, in the good ole USA we have a right to Freedom of Religion (practice thereof) and Christmas is an established tradition in our country.

Nobody is demanding an employee who has their personal disposition opposed to Christianity be forced to return a “Merry Christmas” greeting. I do demand that the company not forbid their employees to return the greeting. Big difference!

Very well said.

When I went into Sam’s Club, which I believe is a subsidiary of WalMart, this morning a big sign geeted me in the doorway - 41 Days until Christmas. I was tempted to call for the manager and ask how many days until Kwanzaa? Hanukkah? Thanksgiving? Why only Christmas ? [Maybe it is the only one that represents a buying deadline?]

Also why the big displays of artificial Christmas trees, decorations, Little Town of Bethlehem models? No Kwanzaa or Hanukkah or Thanksgiving decorations.
