I find this story hard to believe: they don’t sell Maxim magazine because it’s to risque and do not sell unedited c.d.'s, but they are selling this kind of book? Sounds fishy to me.
Me too, for the same reason.

Unfortunately, I am too poor to boycott Wal-Mart at this time.

Unfortunately, I shop at Walmart every so often because at the Super Walmart they sell a bag of salad that I like that has a zipper to seal it, unlike the grocery store closer to me that doesn’t have a zipper closure on the same item, same brand, same size!?!?! And they sell packages of individual disposable eye glass cleaning cloths I like.

Right. I read the link to that Life Site website. But I cannot find the book at Walmart. I too think this story if fishy.

Doh!, called to the carpet.

Ok, here’s the main one.

The discrimination against larger people by charging $2 more for XL XXL and XXXL sizes. I mean, going to a tailor and having to pay a bit more for a one off item because it’s a larger size is one thing, but for a mass produced item that maybe has 20 cents more cloth in it, is ridiculous. Soon they will be charging $2 more for mens shoe sizes greater than 9.

That’s my main reason.
The reason isn’t the material cost, but the machinery set up costs. S, M, and L can be run without changing much on the shop floor. The larger sizes demand a change which cannot be recouped because volume does not support it. We see the same thing in Big & Tall men’s shops. I don’t know about women’s Plus Size shops.

This may very well happen with shoes. For example, for a long time New Balance was the only sneaker manufacturer that sold varying widths for each size. So Nike might simply sell size 9, while NB sold 9C, 9D, and 9E. Because of this NB had higher costs and higher prices.

This costing and pricing dynamic becomes more visible as prices are cut lower and lower.

Right what? To whom are you responding?

Because Walmart withdrew the books from its shelves after John Henry (editor of Lifesite) ran his article and spoke to the folks at Walmart.

The story is not fishy.

No, you’re right, I was wrong. (Shhh! Don’t tell my husband I admitted to being wrong, okay?) I found the book online.

Does anyone know if this stuff is presented as fact?
