Were those catholics who did not believe the earth was flat any less of a catholic? They opposed what the church said, they were disagreeing with the faiths teachings…

Faith and morals are infallible. Teachings on science have NEVER been.

That is a tired, old, worthless argument.

Just because you dislike a particular Church teaching doesn’t make it wrong. It just makes you wrong, that’s all.

I signed that letter, and the response I got was this event was for ‘HIV/AIDS awareness’ and for ‘health care’. Which I refuse to buy into.

Wake up folks. They are a secular business. They are free to give their money to organizations of their own choosing. Now if it was a Catholic charity that did this we would have the right to complain. But with Walgreens, if you’re not happy just stop shopping there. We have the right to run our church not the other organizations. I am not so easily upset by what they did as others are.

We have a"right" to criticize or petition or whatever. They have no “right” to endorse things contrary to the natural law. The secular authority may not prohibit it, but where is the right to do what is wrong?

Wondering Waif:
Don’t take offense at this Kaymart, but is your screenname indicative of a place (K-Mart) where you think folks should shop?
“Kaymart” is a nickname I had for many years, long before Computers and screen names. “Kay” is my name (short-for Kathleen) “Mart” is part of my last name. It has nothing to do with the Store. I am in no way promoting" K-Mart" the store. I have nothing against the store, but it’s not where I normally shop.

A very good dodge.

Ermm what…

Hundereds of years ago when the greatest scientific minds disagreed with the churches teaching, they were not wrong.
A very good dodge.
Are you this cynical about everything, quite frankly you certainly have no insight as to what the true intentions of Walgreens are, infact I would have to say …
A statement like yours if very accusatory and uninformed

The matter of Galileo was not about faith and morals. When scientific idea contradicts faith and morals we take a stand. To do otherwise is scientism. Which promotes science with an agenda of supressing God.

They promote HIV/AIDS awareness and health care with a pro-abortion agenda. With the idea that you can have sex to avoid a pregnancy. Doesn’t work that way. I can’t make you see the truth, just doing my job as a Catholic and Christian. Don’t be your own pope.

Well then, I may be crossing the picket line by continuing to have my prescriptions filled there. I don’t condone the gay lifestyle but I just don’t get so easily offended by their actions. I simply shop for the best prices and that’s how I continue to do my business. I find nothing immoral about that.

That would fall somewhere between embracing the lifestyle and PC tolerance.

I am not saying one would be committing a sin by getting a prescription there. My argument is that these businesses need to be aware that some of the things they support are wrong. How we go about it may vary.

Agendas Agendas Agendas, what is the obsession with Agendas all about?

What do you mean? You think Catholics are to be a sign of contradiction? And if we are, what are we contradicting?

It means that anytime something comes up on this forum that is not in perfect alignment with the Church, you all place an “agenda” on the offending party which they must be using to destroy the church. I am sure Walgreens cares far more about turning a profit than they ever will about the church OR homosexuals.

I think secularism is rampant and that mindset is counter to the truth. Why must I accept error as reasonable? Why must I accept the notion every idea is as good as another?

I agree.

You don’t have to accept anything you dont want to accept. But to take your refusal to accept and turn it around to say that the other party has an active interest in destroying the church is ridiculous. Right or wrong, there does lie the possibility that thier actions have absolutely nothing to do with the church. And I think that is the point that Libero was trying to make. Not everyone and everything has an “agenda”. They could just be going about thier own life.

I am not arguing each of these issues is a deliberate attempt to destroy the Church. I am saying that they are counter to the natural moral law and deserve to be criticized publicly called to account.

Ok, point taken. However, others in this thread have accused Walgreens of that. I think that Walgreens response to the letters is quite accurate. They are a pharmacy, in the business of making money off of drugs that people need in order to stay healthy. To say that they donated money to a cause where they will have great exposure to a potential client base jsut sounds like good business to me. Regardless of the right or wrong of it, there are plenty of people, gay and straight, who are living with HIV/AIDS. Walgreens is simply using them to capitalize on, which, in and of itself, is somewhat slimy, but good business nonetheless. Walgreens purpose is to turn a profit, not bring down the Church or cover up some hidden agenda.

We are awake. We choose to protest organizations by not supporting them if they support that which is immoral. That is our right. It is aligning our faith with our actions.
