Glory to God for all things!

I’m finally getting to see the rebroadcast of this morning’s March for Life in Washington, DC. The opening prayer was " unprecedented Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox bishops together offering the same prayer… respecting the sanctity of human life." I counted 8 EO heirarchs on the platform. Met Jonah voiced the prayer with Cardinal-designate Timothy Dolan at his side.

AND Sat. at the Walk for Life West Coast in SF on Sat. 1/21 Fr Aris Metrakos of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church SF offered the opening prayer. 👍 (see photo below). Fr Silas Ruark Saint Timothy Orthodox Church Fairfield, CA was featured in the photoblog here (bottom photo at this time).
I walked with Fr. Silas and Fr Aris contingent last year for part of the Walk. Photo on right is Fr Anthony Hernandez of St Basil the Great Byzantine (Ruthenian) Church, Los Gatos and parishioner. 👍 Fr. Antony introduced me to a priest he said is newly ordained and serving at St. Anne’s San Luis Obispo. I didn’t get his photo and don’t remember his name. 😊 Maybe someone here from the Byzantine Church of America will know his name.

The estimate was 40,000 at the Walk for Life. Not surprising as per usual there was basically no print coverage locally tho the Sacramento Bee and San Jose Mercury New syndicated papers provided good coverage. The TV news was mainly about the problem with mud at Candlestick park for the 49ers game the next day, and about a beer shortage for the game last year. Three of the 4 local channels did eventually in their broadcasts give the Walk a few seconds, giving equal time to the perhaps 50 or so “pro choice” demonstrators.

I am amazed that the Chronicle can ignore this event in the heart of their very own city. Thank you for the pictures. I’m sorry to have missed it this year.

There is something seriously wrong with a country when mainstream media does not report an event like this. God Help America

Well, America is a great country. I’ve lived in others and there’s nowhere like it. One of the things that is great about it is that we can have peaceful marches like this. One of the worst things about it is that we have to.

It really should come as no surprise whatsoever to anyone that mainstream media doesn’t cover it, or buries it in the back pages with just a few lines, given the agendas they hold.

In Christ,
Jeff

Nothing at all in the Oakland Tribune about yesterday’s March for Life DC. I haven’t seen the print copy of the SF Chronicle today but I would expect the same. Both have taken from the AP feed for their on-line site as have the Sac Bee and SJ Mercury.

Of course AP’s “thousands” and approx 250,000 are quite different numbers in attendance, and “anti-abortion” and “pro-life” are quite different representations. And there was no indication the attendance was down in spite of the freezing rain. It’s difficult weather there nearly every year.

As Fr. Tom Loya so often aptly says: We have lost control of our message in the environment. I’m happy to see our bishops led by the wonderful Cardinal-designate Timothy Dolan have responded forcefully and immediately to Friday’s announcement by the Health and Human Services secretary. HH Benedict XVI’s words to our bishops on Th/ 1/26 were so prophetic of this announcement.

I agree. .

His Beatitude, Metropolitan Jonah voicing the invocation, with Cardinal-designate Timothy Dolan at his side.
With the introduction that these are “unprecendented” Eastern Orthodox and Catholic bishops in prayer together coverage here jump to min 22:14.
I note around 26:25 his Beatitude says “and other bishops of the Roman Catholic and Orthodox Church”, not Churches.
👍

Ohhh noooo…He’s not hinting that we just might be ONE, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church is he? Is he?? :bigyikes: :bigyikes: :bigyikes: :bigyikes:

(Or, maybe his tongue just slipped on the ice 😃 :p)

A slip perhaps, although the word “Church” is spoken quite distinctly 26:22. “We are of one mind on this issue, of one heart…”

Nothing could make me happier than two of my* favorite* clergy , His Beatitude Jonah, Archbishop of Washington and Metropolitan of All America and Canada, and Cardinal-designate Timothy Dolan, Archbishop of NY and president of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops, side by side in front of 350,000< in DC and millions via EWTN and c-span.org 👍
