What are you saying man??? You would advocate denying Holy Communion to the stray Protestant, Buddhist, Hindu, Taoist, Animist, Muslim, Shinto, Voodist, Wiccan Pagan or Satanist that wandered in???** And even to fellow Catholics that don’t measure up to your impossible standards?:bigyikes: :bigyikes: :bigyikes: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO**

Tell me that you are joking, please. What about hurting their feelings? Their sense of self worth. Their very dignity man!!! They’ll be offended Kirk, all because of you and your medieval Pre Vatican II sentiments., Why they’ll feel left out after we invited them in. The Horror Kirk, the Horror.

Kirk, I’m shocked, mortified and scandalized that you of all people would want to practice inclusiveniss in the context of the Mass:bigyikes: . Where is your sense of ecumenism and inter faith relations? Where is your sense of decency man? WHERE WILL IT END.???

Had to save a good for you Kirk.👍

Hope you and your family are doing fine. Best wishes for a Happy New Year. May the peace and grace of our Lord be with you and yours each and every day, Kirk. Take care old friend.
I don’t get it, where does it say we are suppose to be inclusive and offer commuion to other faiths? Is this one of those silly rants about the “progressives”? I’m asking an honest question…did the Pope say we have to be inclusive somewhere? 🙂

I guess there are some around who do not recognize sarcasm when they read it. I’m sorry, the post was sarcastic. Its not a true and real and accurate representation of anything. It is a parody of the more liberal among us who believe that we have to bend over and take it inthe shorts in the name of inclusiveness and diversity.

No the Holy father never said we have to share communion with other faiths.

Jeez.

With all that being said, I see no way of protecting Our Lord from deliberate AND unintentional profanation other than to limit reception to the tongue. I don’t in any way enjoy “policeing” the Communion line, but regrettably, I’ve witnessed far too many instances of people walking away with Him in their hands.

Nothing is more disturbing than finding a Host tucked in a pew or elsewhere, except to know that perhaps the Host was used for even more evil intentions.

My purpose of this post was really to help everyone become more aware that this happens far too frequently. Other than keeping a watchful eye, I don’t know what else we can do.

I guess there are some around who do not recognize sarcasm when they read it.
Perhaps the problem is not a failure to recognize sarcasm but a failure of the sarcasm to capture anything that remotely resembles that which one is satirzing. I am what I suppose many here would classify as a “liberal” or “progressive” or maybe, horror of horrors, a “modernist” and yet I would never propose anything like what was “attributed” to folks who think like I do.
Its not a true and real and accurate representation of anything.
Amen to that!
It is a parody of the more liberal among us who believe that we have to bend over and take it inthe shorts in the name of inclusiveness and diversity.
Either you encounter a highly NON-representative bunch of “liberals” or are highly over-sensitive to the slightest change of any small-t traditions. Or, you’re just overstating your case for humor’s sake. If that’s the case, I can understand but I grow weary of these StrawMen “liberals” constantly being trotted out. Over time it creates a belief that these satires represent reality and that is promoting a falsehood.

I hear the Church of Satan is short on consecrated Hosts…

Unfortunate, but true - the (true) Black Mass takes Our Saviour hostage and offers him to Satan! This started in the 1960’s and continues in the cult to this day. It is a blasphemy:mad: !

Prayers and petitions,
Alexius:cool:
I fully realize that the Church teaches that the Real Presence remains as long as the accidents are present. But I have to ask myself in reflection: God creates the miracle of presenting Himself in the Host at the words of consecration. Why then would He not remove His presence from any Host known to be used in any ritual contrary to the Eucharistic intentions? As devoted as I am to the Eucharist I just have to believe that somehow God takes care of these abominations.

Actually, it is the massage that most people seem to have gotten from Vatican II, not me. I know what Vatican II said, and more than that, I know what they meant. They didn’t mean Barney Masses, female Priests, contraception, abortion on demand or anything else that so many supposedly committed Catholics are clamoring for and in fact support wholeheartedly, all the while filing up to the altar every week or whenever they go to receive Holy Communion.
Well it’s comforting that you don’t actually believe the things you said. Sorry I didn’t catch on to the sarcasm, I’ve been seeing some pretty strange stuff on these boards lately that’s not too far off from the stuff you were saying.
Why do I frighten you? Because I’m not afraid to point out what so many others are afarid to? Or does it cut a little too close to home to have some of the outrages exposed. To have some of the interior feelings brought out to the light of day.
No don’t be frightened of me. Hate me perhaps for pointing things out that maybe you don’t want to see, but don’t fear me. The truth is the truth.
What? Cut a little too close to home? If I seemed angry with you at all, it was with the relativistic persona you were portraying. If I had known that you actually believe that “the truth is the truth,” I probably wouldn’t have replied as I did. I don’t consider myself a relativist–what frightens me is when people so wholeheartedly preach their own relativistic beliefs. It’s not an uncommon ocurrence in the modern world.
I have read Lumen Genitum. Have you?
Yep. Studied it in a college theology class just this year.

Quite possibly there is no harm to the Body and Blood itself.

There is, however, a great deal of spiritual harm to those who profane it or allow it to be profaned. Like the sons of Aaron who improperly offered incense or the man who touched the Ark - no harm to God, but they died for their sins.

And we’ve been told that it’s a sin to allow profanation of the Eucharist. And we, being caring kinda people, don’t want anyone to suffer in their sins.

It drives me nuts to see maybe 3 people going to confession each Saturday and in my parish about 200 going to recieve the Eucharist.

What, you guys are now a buncha saints? Heck I need to go to confession at least every couple months and I am not the most saintly person, sin is not that far away from me, but I am trying. Even saints made it more of a habit by frequenting confession often.

When you have only 2 couples with many kids and the rest have maybe 1 or 2? Hmm there is a good chance some are contracepting, but do we hear that from the pulpit? Do they receive communion, sure they do!
First…as to confession…this has been hashed and rehashed on another thread…but here it goes again. Scylla…do you have ONLY ONE Catholic Church in your community? Do you even stop to think for a minute that maybe those parishoners you are supposing do not go to Confession might actually being going to a different parish for whatever reason? Convenience…maybe? I regularly go to a different parish for confession because they have confession at many and varied hours and it is convenient to me as I go to and from work!! In fact, at Saturday Vigil Mass awhile back I had a lady stop me as I was entering the church and asked me where the confessionals were because she was in the area and wanted to go. So…while I am sure it is more fun for you to be judgmental…you might also stop and think that, for instance, the city I live in has 10 or so parishes…all with different times for confession. You do know, don’t you that you can go to another parish?😉

Are you also the kid police? Are you in the couples bedroom?Maybe they are lucky at NFP…and it is quite judgmental…IMO for you to make such comments…do you have 5 or 6 kids…if not…then why not? LOL See…that is as much my business as it is yours regarding those you see in church. If they are using contraceptives…maybe that is none of your business and maybe it is between them and God…and their confessor.

Yes —this is what our Church teaches—and it is what we as Catholics are to believe.

Wow, I must have hit close to home. Yes it is your business you should stand up for truth too. I agree.

I actually didn’t go to confession for many years and practiced contraception. Yes I am quite familiar with sin. I have led a sinful life and recently discovered how evil I truly was living my life.
That is why I have only two kids, I was evil and sinful and not open to life. I admit it and don’t want others to commit the same sins I did, so I will never shut up about it or risk my own damnation for not warning others about the evils of contraception. I lost one child because of contraception, so trust me I truly know how evil it is, yet people poo pooh it away, in the name of being non-judgemental and not offensive.

There is one Catholic Church in my town with the next one being about 20 minutes away. So I am well aware that these people are not going to confession as I ask them and they deny it. My friend who’s daughter just got an abortion prefers to “confess” at AA instead of at the Catholic Church, should I just let her go to hell?
I talk with quite a few of the people of my parish and contraception is quite prevelant and used with a flippant attitude.
So no I am not judging their actions without merit. I am quite involved in my parish and have to point out sin when I see it, or risk being damned for being too wimpy or scared to stand up for truth.

If they’re going to do announcements and ask us to turn off cell phones at the beginning of Mass, I don’t see why they cannot also take the time to quietly remind everyone that only Catholics who are in a state of grace may receive Holy Communion and that eveyone else should refrain. They could simply refer everyone to page such and such of the missalette that specifies who may or may not rec. Holy Communion (the guidelines are quite clearly spelled out).
That is exactly the announcement on Christmas Day by our Wonderful Pastor (God Bless him and give him long life)

Well, it happened again this morning.

I was helping to distribute the Precious Blood, and again, out of the corner of my eye, I spied a woman walking back to her seat with the Sacred Host in her hand.

Without a second thought I followed her, tugged at her coat and and asked her why she wasn’t eating the Host. She gave me the oddest answer. Looking down at the host, she said, “What, this?” I told her to eat the Host IMMEDIATELY! She did.

I should have asked if she was Catholic and asked her to surrender the Host, but again, it happened so fast, that I only reacted as best I could.

This is definitely not the first time that I have had to stop someone from walking down the aisle with Jesus in their hands. The good news is Our Lord was saved from desecration. Who knows what she would have done with Him. Over the years, we have found Hosts tucked in pew cushions, in between pages of missalettes and on the floor. Not every weekend, thanks be to God, but often enough that it has convinced me that we should only be receiving on the tongue. Then this nonsense may go away.

Usually, those in our parish who are feeble have someone with them to make sure they receive the Eucharist properly. That was definitely not the case with this woman.

Oh how I wish we could bring back the patens and reception only on the tongue!
Sadly, this happened in my parish last year. Our priest was very upset. He spoke to the congregation at the next Sunday Mass about the rules about receiving communion (only for Catholics, necessity of confession, etc).

We are bound by what the Church teaches.

Does your screen name mean —you teach CCD.
Yes I do teach CCD. And to reiterate I know that WE ARE BOUND by what the Church teaches. If you re-read my post you will see where I was coming from. I merely said that with God all things are possible so it could be a possibility (**Not to be confused with official Church teaching )**that the Real Presence might cease if a Host were to be used in a Satanic ritual. It’s just a thought, a ponder, an idea that God would not subject Himself to such desecration. I only teach what is the official teachings of the Church but by my baptismal rights I can still discern certain thoughts.

Yes, but also remember that God is not bound by His commands

My response was based on your own words. What you stated as your belief did not correspond with what we are to believe. In response to my post–you further stated that God is not bound----basicly saying He nullifies one of our core beliefs.

I never said that God nullifies one of our core beliefs. I’m just stating what the Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches when it states that God is not bound by His commandments, we are. I’m done. Good night God Bless and Happy New year!:banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

And to you and yours, Palmas.

I’m still on the end of the stick that says proper catechesis would go a long way to solving our problems. Then, again, I was witness to the Consecration last night of the Most Precious Blood in a large flagon, Which was then fractured into the chalices (by our former vicar general, who you would think knew better). I think I’m becoming innured to it (or maybe I was just tired, I nodded off during the homily, I’m ashamed to say). Thankfully, it wasn’t my home parish.

Funny thing happened today at Mass. This VERY subject came up before Communion today. Father told us that he highly recommends that people receive on the tongue because it reduces the chances for sacrelige. Our parish is pretty orthodox and generally speaking, the Most Holy Eucharist is held in great reverence, YET over the past three or so months, four consecrated hosts have been found in the pews either on the floor and one in a book!

I always receive on the tongue and would receive kneeling if it wouldn’t make me such a show off (lol).

You are not the one to JUDGE…what gives YOU that right? While you may certainly try to “point” them in the right direction…you are not the one to judge and I would be more than offended to have some self-righteous person come and try to butt into my life. It is one thing to try to help a friend such as you mentioned…but you have no right…IMO…to get involved in others’ lives. You do not know their circumstances.

BTW…unless you follow these people around you DO NOT know where they go to confession or if they do or not. Maybe they have face to face confession…you just don’t know for sure and it is highly presumptious of you to make that assertion that you are*** well aware they aren’t going to confession.***…sheesh! Twenty minutes away…hmmm…that is nothing in this town…I have often gone to another parish for Mass that is 20 minutes away. 20 minutes…BIG DEAL!!! LOL

You must have alot of time on your hands.😦
