I’m a very recent convert to the Catholic faith. Last Sunday in Mass, I thought I saw a man take the host from the priest and put it in his shirt pocket. This bothered me, but I didn’t say anything. Having read this post, I’ll now tell our priest what I saw and watch the man more closely next week.

God Bless you!

Well, since you have already formed an opinion of and judged Mel Gibson, whom I sincerely doubt you’ve ever met, it is pretty easy to see what influences your decisions. If that is the case then perhaps this potential convert as you describe him or her, yourself?, needs to take a good hard look at what exactly you are looking for. truth or something that feels good. I know that in many CCD and RCIA programs the feel good, I love you, you love me, we’re a happy family, whoops mustn’t offend anyone at all ever mentality rules. However, lest you have any misunderstanding, there are currently several thousand if I’m not mistaken, Saints in the Roman Church. A very large number of them died defending the faith, by thought, by word and by deed. They chose death rather than compromise the faith in any way. They are called martyrs, maybe you’ve heard of them.

Now I’m not saying anyone on this thread is a potential martyr but I have no doubt at all nor should you that the faith is attacked by many who come on this forum and further is attacked by others every day in churches across the earth and around the world. As for me, I prefer to defend the faith by any means necessary and available which often is sarcasm or what you might consider rude remarks. I may even hurt a few peoples feelings along the way:bigyikes: If I’m wrong, I’ll apologize.

And if commitment to a faith that actually requires you to believe in just a bit more than hey we’re all one big family lets love each other and be happy!!!, than maybe this potential convert needs to re-evaluate a few things.

It would be a sad thing indeed to convert to a faith if what you believe the faith to be is actually something quite different.
If I recall correctly, yours was one of the sarcastic posts that I found troubling. And this latest reply of yours is just condescending and obnoxious, deliberately calculated to prove your correctness at the cost of charitability toward me.

Like it or not, people like you on this forum, represent Catholicism to us converts. What kind of example are you setting by acting about as Christian as Penn Jillette?

In my first post to this forum, I offer a quick story that addresses the original topic.

On December 3rd, a surprising thing happened here in central Minnesota, and I was moved to attend something that almost no one knows about in my diocese of St. Cloud.

The Irish mystic Christina Gallagher and her spiritual director Father Gerard Migginnity were in Padua Minnesota south of Sauk Centre; they were there to re-dedicate and bless a house of prayer…the building was the former Church of Saint Anthony. Allegedly, Christina Gallagher has been asked by Our Lady to start a chain of houses of prayer around the world. There are houses in Texas, Ohio, and Kansas (as well as Achill Ireland).

Our Bishop allowed Fr. Gerard to offer a Mass. There were about 200 people there…I found just enough room in back by the statue of St. Anthony. Honestly, in my 47 years, I have never seen a more wonderful Mass. Fr. Gerard offered up the Eucharist slowly, with a tender love, and everyone who was able kneeled through the entire blessing of the Sacrament.

Before he offered Communion, he gently asked everyone to consider taking the Host on our tongues; he said if we did this, we would be offering Christ and his Mother reparation for all the inappropriate ways He is being received on earth.

Communion was taken off the rail, with an altar boy wearing the black and white cassock and surplus that I wore in the early 1970’s; a patten was beneath all chins, and everyone did as he asked.

The result for me is that I believe in this woman’s apparations and locutions. I did not stay to hear her speak…when I saw the way this man offered Mass, I had seen all I needed to.

Also: Fr. Gerard asked us to take The Eucharist like this for the rest of our days, and I am going to do exactly this to the finish line. I won’t touch the Host again with my hands.
😦 I know this post was probably well meant but I would personally advise not to look further into this woman and her supposed revelations. I have heard her speak in person and almost passed out when I heard what she claimed in person. I will not say what she said (so as to not lead anyone into scandal.) But, 5% of she said appeared highly dangerous, at least to me.

Sorry to be a bit off topic, I just wanted to give a general warning. :gopray:

I did a Google search on her and found the same.

Oh I know she has a website, I’ve seen it. That’s why I went to go see her talk, since she seemed very reliable, as far as private revelations go. I’ll just say she denied a very important doctrine. I was shocked and scandalized, since she had seemed to be supported my many Catholics that I know. I really think the less said about her the better.

But anyways this is really going off topic again, sorry! :o

Revelation ended with Christ. So-called private revelations are utterly unnecessary to the faith, and, in certain cases, can even be detrimental to a person’s faith.

They are best treated with very circumspect caution, and always with the awareness that they never, ever say anything “new”…because revelation ended with Christ.

Liturgies should never be turned into excuses to “host” speakers on various (especially unapproved) apparitions.

What about St. Faustina and the Divine Mercy?

It happened today at Mass. I’m in my pew, after rec. Holy Communion, and hear something from the front. Father (who forgot to turn off his mike as they usually do for Communion) turned to the EMHC and said,“Go get it! Go get it!,” in a very agitated way, and then “I don’t think he’s made communion before!” The EMHC and a lady at the front walked back to where a boy was sitting with his family. The lady sat down next to him, the EMCH stood over him. They spoke to the father and mother and the child (looked to be about 4th grade) then consumed the Sacred Host. The EMHC walked back and indicated to Father that the Host had been consumed.

While I admire our old associate’s fervor and concern (he is a holy priest), I can’t help thinking that the WHOLE thing could have been avoided by simply reminding everyone who could and who could not rec. Holy Communion and by pointing out where in the missalette they can read in detail who can and can’t. I should think the people who don’t have a clue when visiting Mass would actually be GLAD to know. You don’t want to put a foot wrong in ANY social situation, the feeling is probably that much greater in Mass.

Wow, did I just fall of the turnip truck! I never even thought about the possibility of this happening. I makes me extremely sad to hear that this kind of abuse is taking place so regularly.

From now on I will pay more attention to what happens with the Host at mass.

I have to say, I have stopped at least a half dozen people in the past two years or so from walking away. And when I say walking away, I mean five or six steps down the aisle away from the front of the Church, not just a few steps from the priest. I’m very careful to make plenty sure that they aren’t just slow in consuming- they’re definitely walking away. And no specific age or such, young to old. They’re very careful to keep the host tucked in their hand, almost like they don’t want anyone to see it. I’d feel horrible if I jumped to conclusions and was mistaken, so I try to be very, very careful. But it’s like something inside of me says in a loud clear voice, “Go get that one!” I’m not kidding, it’s like I’m being led. And I’m extremely discreet. You know how sometimes you second guess yourself in some situations, but I have never second guessed myself in these instances. I’ve been totally confident that I did the right thing. And I really feel lousy afterwards, cause it does really make me sad.

My guess is that they’re not Catholic and don’t want to stand out by staying in the pew, but aren’t quite sure what to do with the Host. But that’s only a guess. Although I’m not so sure why they hesitate to eat the Host right away since so many in front of them are. It’s not like it’s hard to imitate.

I have an overwhelming love for Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. I pray that I never embarrass anyone and that it’s the guidance of the Holy Spirit that causes me to look up from the Chalice at precisely the right moment.

This is a continous problem at our church especially at Christmas, New Year and August 15 (which also marks the end of the Buddhist o-bon festival). We always have loads of visitors at these times and even though father always makes announcements regarding Holy Communion some people still take Communion who shouldn’t any many don’t consume the Host.
Last August 15th I say a woman take the Host out of her mouth when she returned to her seat, she and her husband had a bit of a discussion, and then she put it between the pages of her book. I asked her for it at the end of Mass and gave it to the priest who went and spoke to the woman and also the people she came with who were regular members of our parish. I heard him explaining to them exactly why their guest who are not Catholic could not receive Communion. Since then, the deacon explains before Mass starts, suggests non-Catholics come up for a blessing and the priest explains once more before Communion. However, the problem continues and we still haven’t found a solution.

Gearoid, I’m not sure I understand. Why did she put it in her mouth, then take it out? And what was the purpose of putting it in a book? What did the Father find out after he spoke with her? I’m just curious as to why she took it out. She just didn’t know what to do?

She told him she didn’t like the taste! I think she was taking it home and wanted to keep it from getting damaged by putting it between the pages of the book she had, a bit like pressing flowers or something.
I think she and her husband had never been in a church before. They seemed totally bored and lost throughout the Mass but were trapped in the middle of a pew so couldn’t leave. Their friends (regular members of our parish) were in the row behind them.

What about them? No one has to believe in it, no one has to offer the prayers indicated for them and no one is under any obligation to accept them at all as being anything other than what they were, private revelations thats all…

 wow, what a very odd story. My goodness. This is something that happens a lot where you are?

I will say, I have functioned as a master of ceremonies in four churches over ten years, and I have watched many a communion procession, both at altar rails and without, Tridentine and Novus Ordo.

I have never, not once, not ever, seen someone try to walk off with a host.

I am not saying it doesn’t happen…I’m sure it does, somewhere, sometime…but I would be very cautious about extraordinary ministers talking about being led by the Spirit to go catch walkers-off.

Okay, maybe that was a hokey claim, to be led by the Spirit to
follow those who are leaving with the Host. I shouldn’t have rambled when I was so tired last night.

But on my honor, I have stopped nearly a half dozen people who did not consume the Host until I told them to. And when I told them, they didn’t protest. But they did say some odd things, nothing that I would expect a faithful Catholic to say. The lady I stopped on Sunday replied when I told her to eat the Host “What? This?” She was clearly walking away, make no mistake.

I will never allow Our Lord to be desecrated on my watch. I don’t care how many people make fun of me.
