Walking on the thin line?

hey yall, got a question on the old lust sin. is it a mortal sin: while watching a video online of a woman in a bikini, then realizing that you shouldnt be, turning it off and forgeting about it…would that be mortal sin? or venial?

haha, great answer i guess! haha, well…i guess, really i’m concerned with that i recieved communion with these thoughts going on in my mind…is that a mortal sin as well?
 
I dont think it is a mortal sin because a mortal sin cannot be accidental. If you start to do something and realize that it is wrong and stop, it is not a mortal sin. Also, the situation of where you saw the woman is an issue. Was the video advertised as one with bikini models or did you click on the video and it came up as something different than advertised?
 
I definitely knew it would contain bikini models, in retrospect i more clicked on it bc i was bored and it seemed exciting to watch, but then once it loaded and i watched it, i realized how wrong i was and x’d out of the video.

I find myself wondering the same thing about materials that are sinful in various ways (gossip, lust, etc). At these times, I am drawn in by curiosity, though I know what is in store. When I see the sinful images or read the sinful text, however, I close the content. This to me does not seem to be a mortal sin. We are reckless in using such material, in putting ourselves in occasion of sin, but its not our intent to view sinful material for the reason that makes it sinful. This is surely a sin and something we must end, but in my situation, at least, I don’t think curiosity is mortal, when we turn it off as soon as we see the potentially grave content.

To me, this is the devil trying to bend our natural and good instinct of curiosity towards dangerous grounds. Let us instead resolve to be curious about the latest postings in this forum, or the latest news from the Vatican. 🙂
 
that was exactly what drew me in, and i feel the same way about it. thanks, i’m not going to let myself be drawn back to that website again.
