I want to start praying the rosary for my husband who is an alcoholic
It has been weighing on my heart to do so. My only question is how do I start. Do I just pray the rosary and in it share my intention or is there a different way. Honestly I don’t say the rosary much. It is like starting at the basics

I normally just recall my intention before I begin the first Our Father and then contemplate on the actual mystery at hand during the decade. But when I have a very urgent intention, I recall my intention before each decade.

The easiest way is just to announce your intention at the beginning. Make the Sign of the Cross holding the crucifix. Then say, “This rosary is for _______” and list all your intentions, such as “for my husband to stop drinking, and for the strength I need to cope with this difficult situation of him drinking, and for the soul of my deceased friend X, and for world peace” etc. You can have as many intentions as you want for one rosary; you can have one or a dozen or whatever you want, it doesn’t dilute the prayers.

Then when you’re done listing all your intentions, go ahead and pray the rosary.

I don’t know if your schedule permits this, but if possible for you to pray the rosary in a group at your parish maybe once a week, that would help get you in the swing of how to say it, how to announce intentions etc. Most parishes have a group that says the rosary at least once a week if not every day.

Just say your intention before you begin. It doesn’t have to be formal or fancy. If you find it difficult to say the whole rosary at once, try to fit a decade in here and there during the day. I think you’ll find it becoming easy to do quickly. I find such peace praying it. God Bless!
