I really want to give a go at fasting. But, I’ve never fasted before in my life.
And food is very much my weakness… the wellspring of all of my other passions. So, it seems the most fitting to focus a fast on that.

But, never fasting before I really don’t know how to go about this.

I know saying “I’m not going to eat anything” is not only taking on too much at once probably a bit overzealous…

Anyone knowledgeable about fasting: what are some ideal ways to go about this?

I’m thinking about only eating a modest dinner every night and having an apple or two during the day.

The Lenten fast is one full meal and two other meals that do not equal the full meal.
Nothing to eat between meals.
Medicine may be taken anytime.

Thanks for the information, Fred.

That’s a good guide for me.

Regarding the meals (for a Lenten fast) should they be pretty modest or unappetizing? Or is that not a requirement.

Modest, yes. It’s (highly) laudable to keep meals simple, but AFAIK not strictly speaking required. 👍

Unappetizing? I know of no recommendation, let alone requirement, that what we eat in times of Lenten fast be unpalatable. :ehh:

Do you have an idea of how you’re going to approach fasting?

Thanks for the information.

I really have no idea how I’m going to go about this.

I was thinking to have my dinner (final) meal at about 6pm. And, only have 1 meal in the day… but like a piece of fruit and some bread with peanut butter and jelly. No snacking outside of these meals.

The Lenten fast is just regular food we normally eat or as a part of our regular food intake.
The meals can be eaten at any time. Some may like to save one for the evening sometime before bedtime or maybe as a snack in mid afternoon. But there is no set requirement as to the times to eat.

Fasting is only required two days in a year - Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.
If you are healthy I would hardly think its a big deal to be able to eat one normal meal and two smaller meals on these two days.

Fasting on any other days is voluntary and therefore there are no rules.
