Hi everyone,
I noticed that there were some posts on here that were directed towards mormons. I also noticed that there were mormons on here. I have always wondered about the different teachings by different churches,( Catholic, JWs, Mormons, Islam etc.). If you are Mormon would you mind telling me about your faith, because I would like to understand your beliefs better and not go by what I have heard from non-mormons…
I like forward to hearing from you soon. 😃
In love,
Warrior4Truth.

I was just reading back over my post and I noticed that I sounded like I did not want anyone other than Mormons to post here. If you are not Mormon and you have some thoughts to add please feel free to do so.
Your loving brother in Christ

warrior what would you like to know
Everything… 😃
What is the Mormon message? When did it start? What is the doctrine? these questions are the only ones that come to mind right now but I am sure I will have more soon… 🙂
Also most of what I know of Mormons did not come from Mormons, but from others that have there own thoughts about it and oppinions, and what I do know is very limited.
I look forward to hearing from you soon paul barlow.
God Bless,
Warrior4Truth.

Here is a start:

1 We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.

2 We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam’s transgression.

3 We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.

4 We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.

5 We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.

6 We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.

7 We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth.

8 We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.

9 We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.

10 We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.

11 We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own cconscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.

12 We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.

13 We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to gendure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.

Sherman63,
Thank you for taking the time to answer my post. It is very much appreciated. Hope to here from you and other mormons too.

The biggest difference would be the fall in the Garden and the Nature of God.

As Christians we believe that God is the essence and origin of all things. That God is not part of what has been made but is the very source of all things. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit have been together and have no beginning and no end. That within the Godhead, One God is a relationship of Love that has always existed, the love of God for the Son, the love of the Son for the Father, and the love of the Holy Spirit, which is the Love between the Father and the Son. This Love, this most Holy Spirit is what has been given to Creation in order to have life, in order to come to know our creator so that we can turn to Him, to share eternity with Him, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit forever. This is what Jesus has always had with the Father, it is the gift given to Creation.

Mormons believe that the fall was a good thing. We were made perfect but we did not yet have the status of God, so we set out according to Satan to prove our worthiness, to become righteous, to follow the law in order to become a God like the Father and the Son. This is what is coined eternal Progression. The Father also has a Father and so on. God was once a mortal being like us, but progressed into what He is now.

Continued…

For us Christians eternal progression would mean that we as created beings find our Creator and turn to Him for all things, He being the law fullfilled, He takes care of the Rest. We are no longer lost and constantly tempted by our own pride. We come into His perfect Grace, through His perfect Son Jesus Christ. Creation becomes One with God.

For Christians God is the first and last of everything that exists whether in heaven or on earth. He is the creator of all the angles, all powers and principalities, this would include Satan, who was created good through Crist, but decided because of free will that he wanted to become a God as God is, in his own right.

This is the genuine Fall of mankind as well. We all desire power and glory in our own right. This is the accepted, distorted path that the LDS are walking. It is very innocent for the most part, but some do know outright about this direction and they do choose it, because Glory and Power is what the Devil offers, and in this life, …man…does it ever look good. I fight this battle daily, all Catholics do. I feel blessed as a Catholic to at least know what I am up against while on earth. It helps me to make better decisions about what to desire and what not to desire. It helps me turn to Christ as Peter did knowing that he denied Him and in the end was still very much loved. This is what changed Peters heart, this is what changes our own hearts.

Christians look to hand their entire lives over to Christ in order for Christ to lead them home to the Father. Christians are led to look at themselves and see what this desire for power and glory has done to our Savior. It had Him crucified by us! by each of our own sins past and present. (the corralation to the Cross is breathtaking) , although He freely submitted to it, because it was Gods will for us to be saved by our Lords death and resurection, the perfect sacrafice made once for all.

In the end it was and is the devils defeat. We are called to die to ourselves in order to go to our death with Christ, in order to be risen to eternal life with Him. All this is the opposite of pride and self pursuit, such as looking for selfish rewards in Heaven that would seem to exalt us. The reward for Christians is be with Christ forever. It is in realizing that we can do nothing on our own to attain Heaven. Christ redeemed us period. We learn this, the relationship begins with Christ. We no longer want to sin because of our love for Him and what He has done for His creation, to show us these truths in order for each of us to be set free from ourselves. The fall was a terrible thing but it had to happen. Not to progress into a God, but rather for Creation to find it’s Creator, it’s only center that matters in the end. God is all, and He is life giving. Where nothing becomes something and can realize what has been given. God to each of us, through His Only Son Jesus Christ.

This is where the differences between the LDS church and the Catholic Church is discovered. My love for the LDS is from God, I want nothing more for them that for them to find Him. It is not in what we do or how often we do it that matters. We cannot get to God by being good or by being better than another. We get to God because God through His Son has redeemed us. Without Jesus we would have no hope. He is our Goodness, we get to share in it. We are the Darkness, He is our light that illuminates us, and turns us into something very special and very, very good. Jesus did away with the Laws of the Old Testement as Jesus is the Law itself. We just hand our lives over to Him and He does the rest.

Hope that helps.

our main message is that jesus is the christ
that he loves us.
that he wants us to follow his example.
that we should live a christ like life.
that we should love those around us.
in fact if you read the beattitudes it gives a good grounding in what we believe.
we in deed view the fall of adam as a necessery event.
again our view is that the sacrifice on the cross and the atonement in the garden removed the sin of adam from our heads.
these are some of our basic beliefs.

Warrier,
I’m glad you asked the question. I’m also glad that majick posted the lds.org website. I would also refer you to mormon.org

Christ is central to our religion. It is only through his atonement that we can return to live with Him and our Father in Heaven. Faith, Repentance, Baptism and receiving the Giftof the Holy Ghost are the foundations of the faith. I believe this is pretty similar to most Christian religions.

LDS believe in modern prophets who receive revelation from God for the entire church today. We also believe that individuals can receive revelation directly from God for their own personal lives and stewardships. We have modern scripture which we hold equal in value to the Bible. We believe in continuing revelation. We believe that we are a restoration of the original church that Jesus established when he was on earth. We believe that there was a general apostacy not long after the death of the apostles. (I don’t say this to make a dig at the Catholic church - because I honestly have a lot of respect for the Catholic church and I especially loved Pope John Paul II. ) We believe that while there were many good people on the earth during this time, the authority to guide God’s church was lost until it was restored to Joseph Smith in the early 1800’s.

We believe that we can know the truth of all things through the inspiration of the Holy Ghost. That’s why you will see a lot of discussions about “testimony” and such among Mormons. We believe in studying and education and place great value on that, but we know that the ultimate source of truth is God and we believe we can go to him for verification of any truth He sees fit to reveal to us.

There are a lot of other issues and differences, but that’s the best summary I can come up with. Do you have any specific questions?

This is all Catholic at first glance, can we go a bit deeper because it is very necessary?
  1. our main message is that jesus is the Christ
***What exactly do you mean by this? Is He to your faith the One and Only Eternal Son with no beginning and no end, no God before Him or after Him? As all Christians believe. This is very important to pass on if you are speaking to a soul about this for the first time about your Church’s beliefs. So that later there would be no confusion. As we teach those looking towards baptism we explain the Nature of God to them so that they have no mis understandings down the road on what CHristians have always believed. The Nature of God is a very important subject when it comes to recognizing a religious sect. You cannot just say” ***our main message is that jesus is the Christ”

2.that he loves us.

3.that he wants us to follow his example.

***Does Jesus follow an example? Did He ever? Or is He the example itself that we are to follow? Do you see Jesus as the perfect Grace of God? ***
  1. that we should live a christ like life.
***Do you do this by your own merit? Since the Sin of Adam does not pertain to you? Or do you allow Christ to do this for you by His Grace alone? Do you posses your own Grace to become a God? ***
  1. that we should love those around us.
***Yes, the way that God Loves each one of us. Even the least among us. ***

in fact if you read the beattitudes it gives a good grounding in what we believe.

***When I read the beatitudes I am in the presence of Christ and His Church on earth, it is this message that Christ gave to His Church in order to be written down and stored, as to come alive for each soul who comes to believe in Him our only Lord and God of all things. The beatitudes are not just words from Jesus, they are of Jesus. ***

******we in deed view the fall of adam as a necessery event.

Continued____

***But you have to admit, it is not viewed at all in the way that all Christians have come to view and know it. It took all of mankind away from the Grace of God in search of becoming a God. This is the same fall that Satan Himself took and would like to pass on to us as to deceive us and attempt to take us away from God for all eternity. Because of His jealousy of Christ, His hatred of Christ. What happened in the garden Killed every one of us. What happened on the Cross restored us to life. It is because of Christ, not of our own doings un less one would want to taunt the power of Christ’s cross. ***

Christ died to get us back to the grace of God so that we can say, “never again will I leave my Creator for my own self pursuit, it is over, I am home to stay” (Prodigal Son – all of us) This is the lesson, it has nothing to do with what I as a human will receive in heaven for myself such as Glory and esteem, a higher kingdom than others etc… but it has everything to do with getting back to the grace of God and being with Him forever as His grateful created and adopted Child.

“again our view is that the sacrifice on the cross and the atonement in the garden removed the sin of adam from our heads.”

Christains have always known that it was in the garden that Jesus allowed His humanity to align with ours in the fears that we all and will face throughout this life. He allowed Himself to feel what we all feel. But that was it, when He was done he rose to take our sins to His death by way of the Cross. Here are some Scriptures to Ponder:

**God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world." Galatians **6:14 "

…the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God." 1 Corinthians 1:18

"He said to them all, 'If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me."
Luke 9:23 "…

**by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross." Colossians 1:20 **

"…having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross." Colossians 2:14

"…that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity." Ephesians 2:16 "

And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight— if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel…" Col 1:21-23

"Then Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, “One thing you lack: Go your way, sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, take up the cross, and follow Me.” Mark 10:21

"… he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me." Matthew 10:38

"Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect." 1 Corinthians 1:17

"…if I still preach circumcision [conforming to accepted cultural standards], why do I still suffer persecution? Then the offense of the cross has ceased." Galatians 5:11

"As many as desire to make a good showing in the flesh, these would compel you to be circumcised, only that they may not suffer persecution for the cross of Christ." Galatians 6:12

"For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ; whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame – who set their mind on earthly things. For our citizenship is in heaven…" Philippians 3:1

8 “…looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:2

he is the son of god. he is our mediator our redeemer. we will aways argue about the godhead and your incorrect views on it. but lets just remeber what Jesus did for us and even you will find no fault with our worship of God through Jesus.

Fair enough. If you want to start another thread on the topic, I’m game, although I probably won’t post any more today. I’m going to be running all over the place and won’t be near the computer much.

I liked that little jab “your incorrect views on it.” You may wish to clarify that Jesus IS the Son of God, that He was conceived by the Holy Spirit of the Virgin Mary, that Jesus is the Second of the Trinity, and refer to NT Gospel John 1 that Jesus was with God and that God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit always were, had no beginning, have no end. Also, Jesus is both divine and man,not merely mortal.

You may also want to clarify any misperceptions orbiting about Adam and St. Michael the Archangel (some sites indicate that Adam and Michael are one in the same) and Jesus and Lucifer (that both Jesus and Lucifer presented a plan of Salvation to God, but when God accepted Jesus’s plan then Lucifer became angry and was thrown from Heaven taking with him about 1/2 of the other angels).

are you saying that jesus was not the son of God? was the saviour talking to himself on the cross or his father? we believe he is the son of God the Eternal father.
