War on Catholic Teaching

I have decided to remain a Catholic after aspects of the Church that I go to changed. And as such, I have also remained a Catholic Youth Minister. Many parents are now angry that I have chosen to remain as a Youth Minister within this Church. They believe that I threaten “True Catholic Teaching” and that I am part of the “Demonic Army” to “overthrow” the Catholic Church. I have gotten several threatening emails, letters, and phone calls and I have decided to ask that these individuals be removed from the Church. If they want to attack or threaten me then they can simply find another church. I appreciate that the Priests in the Church have taken my side and are now defending me. I believe that the true threat to the Catholic Church and the true enemies of Catholic Teaching are those who are intolerant and forget Jesus teaching. The war over the Catholic Church has been taking place for as long as it has existed. I hope that we win the spiritual battle against the fundamentalists who are dangerous to the well-being of the Catholic Church and have continuously destabilized and divided the Catholic Church. Only when the fundamentalists are no longer in our church can we truly be unified as one holy mother church. The fundamentalists are just like the pharisees. We need to get our feet in the ground to defend the Catholic Church. We shall not let it fall to extremists, fundamentalists, and violent criminals. I may be repeating myself but I want to know what are your thoughts on the spiritual war between the fundamentalist Catholics and the true Catholics?
Why this spiritual war? Because their are contradictions in the teachings within the group. Example: Mt 27:46 & Mk 15:34 Jesus said: “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” Now if Jesus has a God, and he was God, how can this be considered as monotheism? simply "Christian

It sounds to me that your asking us to accept perversion, and those who are unwilling your calling names like Fundamentalist which in Protestant circles is radical but in the Catholic faith it should only mean one who follows the fundamentals of the Churches teaching. I suspect the Priest are only trying to stay out of the fight, so are only being agreeable to you to shut you up. I would hope the Church has you removed from the Children as sooner or later you will try to show them your life style is OK.
Posting sensationalist nonsense to bring back a long dead thread does not make very much sense.

Hi Maria TS,

You know, a whole bunch of this thread hasn’t made sense . . . .

I didn’t get your point about “Fundamentalists” in the original post either. As for definition, “Fundamentalism refers to a belief in a strict adherence to a set of basic principles (often religious in nature), sometimes as a reaction to perceived doctrinal compromises with modern social and political life” (thefreedictionary.com). The term fundamentalism was originally coined to describe a narrowly defined set of beliefs that developed into a movement within the Protestant community of the United States in the early part of the 20th century, and that had its roots in the Fundamentalist-Modernist Controversy of that time.

The term has since been generalized to mean strong adherence to any set of beliefs in the face of criticism or unpopularity, but has by and large retained religious connotations – and it is commonly used as a pejorative term. Perhaps it is the part about it being a pejorative term that sparked the reaction? At any rate, if we use common language and define the word “Fundamentalist” as Protestant, then there aren’t any Fundamentalists in the Roman Catholic Church. Do you perhaps mean “Traditionalist Catholic”? As in “Roman Catholics who believe that there should be a restoration of many or all of the liturgical forms, public and private devotions and presentations of Catholic teachings which prevailed in the Catholic Church before the Second Vatican Council.”?

I ask because the statement, “Only when the fundamentalists are no longer in our church can we truly be unified as one holy mother church. The fundamentalists are just like the pharisees.” Is troubling to me. It seems to suggest that only groups of people that are completely homogonous can belong to Church? That certainly was not what Jesus Christ taught by his example of welcoming the outcast and lowly. His Church is open to all who accept Him and follow the teachings and conditions of membership. So your argument about “spiritual war between the fundamentalist Catholics and the true Catholics” has me confused.

At any rate, I think your real point was about remaining in youth ministry. No, you should not be attacked and threatened. That is just totally unacceptable. I’m sure that is what your priests agree with – NO ONE shuould eb suject to violence - neither you nor the “fundamentalists” or whomever is bothing you.

However, WHY are you the object of criticism, attack or violence? The line “I have chosen to remain as a Youth Minister within this Church” might be a clue. As I posted earlier, Church ministry is not about what we want or what we choose — ultimately, it is about God’s calling and doing work to bring about His Kingdom. Perhaps the negativity is a sign that should be considered in your discernment of where God is calling you . . . . .

In my humble opinion, this situation should go to prayer . . . . . lots and lots of prayer . . .before deciding anything else.

I’ll pray for you.

I have answered above why people want me out.

I have answered at an earlier post in this thread what a fundamentalist is.

An individual who is intolerant is an individual who judges and criticizes others with no regard for their own personal wrongs.

I am not pro-choice when it comes to abortion but a very slim minority of abortions are acceptable. I am pro-homosexual-marriage but I do not support homosexual intercourse and I do not support taking away choice from priests. They should get the marriage from whomever they find willing to perform the marriage. These are very minor views within the Catholic Church however and nothing that I have said in any way violates church teaching.

You are simply ignoring the fact that I have been threatened and attacked because people do not want me as the Youth Minister. If you condone violence then you are not a Catholic.
I don’t know you or your circumstances apart from what you have said. However, you are in error if you think that the Catholic Church ever condones abortion or homo-sexual marriage. The Catholic Church actually teaches that homo-sexual marriage is impossible because by definition, marriage is the joining of a man and a woman.
However, being homosexual or bisexual is not in and of itself a sin, so long as you are chaste. Please read your catechism more carefully (as well as your Bible). Whatever the case is, I do not judge you, but I will pray for you and the people in your parish.
