I have decided to remain a Catholic after aspects of the Church that I go to changed. And as such, I have also remained a Catholic Youth Minister. Many parents are now angry that I have chosen to remain as a Youth Minister within this Church. They believe that I threaten “True Catholic Teaching” and that I am part of the “Demonic Army” to “overthrow” the Catholic Church. I have gotten several threatening emails, letters, and phone calls and I have decided to ask that these individuals be removed from the Church. If they want to attack or threaten me then they can simply find another church. I appreciate that the Priests in the Church have taken my side and are now defending me. I believe that the true threat to the Catholic Church and the true enemies of Catholic Teaching are those who are intolerant and forget Jesus teaching. The war over the Catholic Church has been taking place for as long as it has existed. I hope that we win the spiritual battle against the fundamentalists who are dangerous to the well-being of the Catholic Church and have continuously destabilized and divided the Catholic Church. Only when the fundamentalists are no longer in our church can we truly be unified as one holy mother church. The fundamentalists are just like the pharisees. We need to get our feet in the ground to defend the Catholic Church. We shall not let it fall to extremists, fundamentalists, and violent criminals. I may be repeating myself but I want to know what are your thoughts on the spiritual war between the fundamentalist Catholics and the true Catholics?

This being a philosophy forum, could you please define the distinction you are making between fundamentalists and non?

People who take lines in the bible literally and singularly and cherry-pick which lines in the bible to follow who also judge others and/or act violently towards them are fundamentalists. True Christians are people who take the bible in its entirety and are Christ-like.

 What’s their reasoning behind this? I mean I could understand if you’re defending abortion or encouraging people to wear swimsuits to mass… but I can’t imagine a logical reason to say such hurtful things:(

If you’re saying fundamentalists as verse-by-verse people… doesn’t sound very Catholic to me. At first I thought you were talking about the more traditional Catholics, and got kinda worried:o.

It would be nice to meet one of those some day. 😃

I admire the audacity of MariaTS! Even though our faiths may differ, I agree the enemies of Catholicism are within it. May the Sword of Truth do the dividing, and not mere argument.

Maybe it will not be resolved until our feet are “in the ground”. 🙂

Could you give more information please. What have you taught the youth that these fundamentalists say is contrary to “True Catholic Teaching”?

In your ministry do you have a Catholic Bible and Catechism of the Catholic Church present during your classes? I sound very repetitive on many posts on Bible and Catechism on many issues. Two years ago on an EWTN (Eternal World Television Network) show, a catechist had questioned on comments from students/parents on the Catholic faith and could hardly answer. The show host asked the catechist if a Catholic Bible and Catechism in hand during the classes and the answer was no. The peson was advised to always have their Catholic Bible and Catechism of the Catholic church during the classes.
You would be suprised how the Catechism can help you so much in apologetics in the defense of the Catholic Faith. And why not? It came frome Pope John Paul II,Cardinals,Bishops and priests from the Holy See for the first time (450 years) since The Council of Trent. I have used this book so much in my two years of CCD/Youth Group, and this year assisting RCIA Classes. The information in the Catechism comes from Bible, Apostles,Magisterial teachings, Church Councils, saints, early Church fathers,Apostolic Constitutions, Papal Encyclicals and much more. The classes I helped teach had instruction sheets with Bible information and Catechism information on top of the page. So if there was any question from parents on the subject taught, there were always information sources to defend Church teaching.

You haven’t given any specifics.

Why did people want you out?

What do you mean by “fundamentalists”?

What do you mean by “those who are intolerant”?

That last one troubles me. “Tolerance” is usally code for Liberal extremism and anti-Catholic beliefs. Are you pro-choice? Are you pro-homosexual marriage? If so then you should most definitely NOT be a minister, and I would certainly NOT want you teaching at MY parish either.

Spell it out and tell us exactly what you mean.

The reasoning behind this is that I am Transsexual, Bisexual, and severely Physically Disabled. They do not want such an “abomination” near their children and think that they should either destroy me or pressure me into resigning. I have not done, taught, or said anything that could possibly be deemed immoral so I will not give in to arrogant bullying. I teach the Catholic Faith in the most appropriate way. I will admit, I always make the activities and the lessons fun for the children. Many parents do not think their children should have fun while learning about the Catholic Faith. Not allowing children to have any joy in their lives is child abuse. I support abortion in 1% of cases as is Church teaching but 99% of abortion is absolutely immoral. Also, I have a traditionalist approach on what type of clothing an individual should wear to church.

The only thing that makes a person a fundamentalist is ignorance and intolerance. The vast majority of fundamentalists are cherry-pick-verse-by-verse individuals. This same thing makes an extremist but generally the bible is exempt.

Being severely Physically Disabled.ain’t the reason.

The reason is that bi-sexual behavior is an abomination unto God. They are right not to want you working there.

Question: Do you practice chastity and sexual abstinence, or do you engage in that abominable behavior? Because if you are sexualy active, you are in a continual state of mortal sin, and a most disturbing mortal sin at that

I have answered above why people want me out.

I have answered at an earlier post in this thread what a fundamentalist is.

An individual who is intolerant is an individual who judges and criticizes others with no regard for their own personal wrongs.

I am not pro-choice when it comes to abortion but a very slim minority of abortions are acceptable. I am pro-homosexual-marriage but I do not support homosexual intercourse and I do not support taking away choice from priests. They should get the marriage from whomever they find willing to perform the marriage. These are very minor views within the Catholic Church however and nothing that I have said in any way violates church teaching.

You are simply ignoring the fact that I have been threatened and attacked because people do not want me as the Youth Minister. If you condone violence then you are not a Catholic.

“…Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity, tradition has always declared that “homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered.” They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.”

Catechism Of The Catholic Church, section 2357

You should not have been threatened or attacked. I agree, that was wrong

You should also not be a minister, as your sexual orientation is incompatible with such a position

Not at all disagreeing with the points made; a question:

Does the RC church speak of some mortals sins being more “disturbing” than others?

This does not belong in this topic, but I will bite. Homosexual acts implies homosexual intercourse not homosexual marriage. Also, the teaching of the Catholic Church should not be civil law. People should not take the Bible line-for-line just as well as they should not take the Catechism line-for-line. An important thing, the Catholic Church was not founded to reject scientific fact or biblical text. This exact grouping of words rejects scientific fact and biblical text.

Well:

Stealing is a mortal sin.
Child molestation is a mortal sin.

I ask you: Do you find one of those more disturbing than the other?

You should not have been threatened or attacked. I agree, that was wrong

Wrong. I am a virgin and I have chosen a life of celibacy.

What behavior? I don’t have sexual intercourse. Everyone is in a state of mortal sin and all mortal sins are just as disturbing.
