Warnings from God?

Earthquakes are not punishment from God. They are natural occurrences because of plate tectonics. God doesn’t punish people at this time and punishment will come on judgment day.
I dont believe that, the bible shows more than a few instances when God ‘punishes’ people using some kind of natural method, plus Gods nature NEVER changes, and he goes on to say he has been, is and will always be the same, so I cant see God punishing people at one point, then stopping, that would imply, he re-considered, or had second thoughts, which I believe is impossible.

We have always been taught to believe scientists and others who attribute all natural events to science and nature tend to have their own agenda and usually those are the same people who also try to debunk Gods actions, in other words, everything is scientifically explainable, nothing is supernatural, as to take away from God.

However I do believe some natural events are just that…natural incidents…caused entirely by natural events, but I also believe SOME events are specifically from God.

I don’t doubt that God has and can punish peoples for iniquity. The difference is, in the Bible (OT) we are reliably told that this happened in specific instances through the words of the prophets, God’s chosen spokesmen. Jesus says in Luke that we are not to make those decisions about particular instances (as with those in modern times, when we do not have prophets), as we do not know what God’s actions are.

If God was punishing Haiti for having people who follow voodoo, is God also punishing the Phillipines who are nearly all Catholic?

I think it is the laws of nature that causes earthquakes and taiphoons and not God.
The tornado that leveled the school in OK convinced me that God created a blind nature. Nature will do what it will, we just get in the way of it now and again.

Also, the story of Sodom and Gamorah tells us that God will not punish the just for the actions of the wicked. It what happend to Haiti was a punishment, that would mean that there were no just people in Haiti.

Im curious if anyone thinks God is or has sent warnings to people in the recent past or modern times?
Nature is a poor conveyor of messages.

That said, there have been warnings from God.
Mary provided them, I believe the most recent was in Lourdes.

Some great responses here, heres a hypothetical scenario, since I was watching NOVA tonight about the threat posed from the 1000s of asteroids floating in space, lets say a larger one hits earth and ends up killing off a third of the population, would this still just be nature doing its thing, or something from God?..Then take it a step further, lets say a big one hits and like the dinosaurs, it kills off 99% of humans…would that still be just a benign act of nature, with no intent, implied or otherwise from God?

What says something like that must be divine. there is an unimaginably large amount of stuff floating about in space, and the earths gravity means its a much bigger target than it looks.
