I strongly recommend Blessed Anne Emmerich’s Biblical Revelations. Tells a lot about Genesis. I think, according to her writings, she does say that Adam was beside Eve.

I don’t think either of them saw suffering in their future when they acted.

It does not matter along as as we derive benefit, leading us to more obedience and love of God and neighbor.

Precisely…But again, that is determined by the anagogical not the literal sense so whether they were both in the presence of the serpant is irrelevant.

I doubt it. Divide and conquer is the devils favorite tactic. Lure away and pounce! Very predatory.

The Douay-Rheims and the RSVCE do not mention the words “with her” after the word “husband” (Ge 3.6) pertaining the the Fall. … Also, it’s not in the text utilized by the RSV and the D-R. Was Adam beside her or elsewhere in the Garden at the time Eve was deceived?
If you read it literally, you have that dilemma. But if not, you don’t.

Another way of reading it is that she was tempted to commit a sexual sin of a contraceptive nature(in other words, the act was not consummated). The fruit she offered to Adam, was not an apple. For him to accept this fruit, they had to be very close together.

This is why we have St. Paul blaming Eve for the sin, not Adam.

1 Tim 2:13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve. 14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
