Was Adam lonely in the Garden of Eden?

God created Adam and said “It’s not good for man to be alone.”, so he created Eve.

If there were no suffering in the Garden of Eden, why did God assume Adam would be lonely?

Yes, God said it was not good for man to be alone. However, being alone just means you’re by yourself. It does not mean you are suffering from loneliness. God did not say “It’s not good for man to be lonely.”

Yes, he was lonely. He wasn’t necessarily unhappy but his happiness was less complete without Eve.

Human beings were created in the image of God, therefore in order to more perfectly bear the image of God - the Holy Trinity - there needed to be Adam, and Eve, and the fruit of their love, Cain.

The first family, of course, goes haywire.

The Holy Family likewise reflects the Holy Trinity.

God commander all the other lifeforms to be fruitful and to multiply, and Adam wasn’t built to do so on his own. Hence the need for a partner.

God gave Adam the life of grace, a share in His own life, so Adam couldn’t have been lonely. To me, the meaning of the verse is that God always intended Adam to have children to pass on the same grace.
