Was Columbus a Murderer, Thief and more?

Hello I just wanted to know a few things on Columbus because statues are coming down.if anyone has a Catholic teaching or view on this it’ll be nice
Did Columbus steal gold from Indians?
Did he enslave Indians?
Did he murder Indians?
Why aren’t American Indians part of the Knights of Columbus?
Just to note that I’m a knight of Columbus myself.
 
Oh sorry for the confusion. Yes i know Indians are allowed to be knights.
I was saying more in the words , if Columbus was innocent then why aren’t they knights
 
No one can really say. But some flags of conscience are really basic moral rules. The mindless violence of the ways the gold was obtained, let alone the greater evil of the need for it rather than trusting a nation to the Holy Spirit. Of all the clergy that followed their explorations, you would think one would have been a true Franciscan(1200’s) in spirit and voiced an objection.
 
The Dominican Bartolome De Las Casas, wrote a memoir of the voyages of Columbus and wrote to the Pope to report the abuses committed by Columbus and his men against the Indigenous Natives of the New World.

That doesn’t sound accurate to the Catholic teaching on him.
As from what I learned Columbus referred to Indians as beautiful people, and actually brought Christianity to the Indians and Indians were baptized by the millions
 
I was asking about Columbus and not what the Spaniards did.
What i mean is yes they were Columbus people you could say but Columbus never ordered anyone to be murdered just to be a beast
 
There are some who will think sharing Jesus with them is some sort of abuse.
 
Bartolome De Las Casas did not go with Columbus.

Ah, okay. My misunderstanding.

However, De Las Casas never mentions Columbus in his work. So I don’t think we can say De Las Casas proves Columbus was a horrible person.
 
Thanks JimR, a very sad accounting. In this also the natives were dying from diseases the Europeans brought with them. Altogether a true holocaust.

Isn’t this a question you should direct to the Knights?

Columbus brought the beginning of the end to the indiginous peoples of North America. Most of the tribes on the East Coast were wiped out by European invasion.
 
Yeah i haven’t been active with the knights, so i thought i ask here
