That’s probably a good chunk of it, but I’d be careful about throwing around the “virtue signaling” thing too cavalierly. Virtue signaling is when people are pretending to care about something more than they do in an attempt to elicit finger snaps of approval from their Twitter buddies. If someone is genuinely really upset by Columbus, it’s not virtue signaling. I get what you’re saying, you just don’t want to make it a reflexive thing you throw out to dismiss any concern you don’t share.

As for me, it seems like Columbus was probably a pretty iffy dude (or at least, someone with some massive failings we should balance against his accomplishments), but I’m also not out there demanding we rename anything with his name on it or disinter his corpse or anything.
 
He may not be a saint but didn’t he want to bring Christianity on his voyage, and he believed God sent him to save souls. After his voyage didn’t Millions Indians get baptizeand find Jesus Christ?

I agree on you 100% on that. We need to someone to point the finger at and blame. Thats the work of the Devil a Nun told me. She said Devil means division and that is what we do and we shouldn’t do that
 
What year did people start accusing Columbus of these crimes?
 
Dear BOOM BOOM, That’s the point, he did have courage to go places untraveled. He had the superiority of thought of Europeans. They were to look for gold. If you weren’t white, you were a slave. We brought germs that spread through the inhabitants. Columbus, the man held the arrogance of European aristocracy.
Can the statues stand— yes. Put a plaque on its base declaring his sins.

His inner motivations were probably like most trailblazers: Gold, Glory, God.

*Gold, spices, or trade in general was a primary motivation for exploration.

*Pursuing Glory and promoting oneself over your rivals is essential in taking risks and achieving greatness. Anyone doing something cutting edge is certainly looking to be placed on a pedestal.

*Finally, we have God. I seriously doubt this was first on anyone’s list. On the other hand it aids in building your cause, “We must evangelize the natives!” It’s not wrong; however, I sense some had business in mind before Christ.

All things considered, I believe First Contact was gonna be botched either way you slice it. Nevertheless, I think the world is better off because of European exploration.

He may not have predicted or expected the complete elimination of the people but he appeared to have no concern as it happened and took actions such as waging war, mass enslavement, murder and brutal oppression which any rational person would have considered could contribute to the elimination of a people. And even if genocide was not his intent his contributing actions were intended and as far as I can work out, in Catholic terms, are objectively sinful and give great scandal.

Columbus was one of the key players in founding the modern Western world. Tarring his reputation accomplishes 2 things.
  1. It delegitimizes Western culture in favor inferior cultures.
  2. It saddles whites with the original sin of exploiting all the peaceful natives and demoralizes their descendants in order to justify mass immigration today.

How to find proof for something that happened five hundred years ago on some group of explorers? It is not like that part of the world really had some ways of keeping record. Once they all died, what we know now probably pretty much that there was.
 
Yeah that’s my point, so if we didn’t have record them why do we put all these accusations on him.
Ok maybe it was Columbus people but it wasn’t Columbus’s orders, those troops did what they felt like on there own command.
Like if a US soldier rapes a girl in the middle East, we dont blame Trump
 
It would be more of a platoon commander. Make that a company or at the most, batallion. They were not that many. Trump would be like King Ferdinand.

They dealt harshly with the natives, whom they regarded as savages. There would not be likely any court martial if the soldiers or even the commander actually did any atrocities.

I agree however without any written proof or otherwise, it is difficult to say with certainty to know what he did other than those things that we already known.

It said if Columbus were alive he would be on trial. If Jesus were alive in the U.S. He would he be on trial and hung?

Don’t trust everything you read. That was fake site. Saying that Columbus tested how sharp his know was by slicing up 10 year old Indians? Total lie
 
Maybe it is, maybe it isn’t. Out of curiosity, why does it matter? You just seem really invested in the idea that Columbus was a great guy. If Columbus turns out to have been literally the worst person who ever walked the face of the Earth, that would have absolutely no impact on Catholicism or your Catholic faith.
