What you need to do is to pray to God and ask him to reveal his will to you and show you what Jesus Christ did for you at calvary.
If you really want to know, he will help you.
God wants you to be saved and does not want you to perish.
But there is only ONE way to be saved and escape God’s wrath and that is through the shed blood of the sinless Lamb, the Lord Jesus Christ. May God bless you and lead you to his Son.
There is only one way and it is NOT by works.

I congratulate you on a very Catholic response. Catholics, by the way, do not believe that we are saved by our own works but by the grace of God.

I have been following along in this blog to see if I should turn to the Catholic Church. But after reading how some of the Catholics are on this blog , I am now not so sure.

I have been going to Church of Christ Church, not Universal, just COC and have been disappointed on how smug they can be towards others Faiths. They think that they are the only ones going to heaven and that the rest of the world is going to hell. I felt that they were a tad judgmental and just did not seem right to me.

But now I see that there are Catholics here on this blog that are the same way. I tend to lean more towards the Lutherans, Baptists, on this blog. They tend to be kind hearted and knowledgable. I for one think that reading the Bible is very important.

The Bible I have is a Catholic Bible, New American Bible, picked out for me by Monsignor Gerald Lefebve. He is the family Priest since I was 10yrs of age.

I also have a NIV bible and King James. The only difference is that my Catholic Bible has more books. But the books that my NIV has says the same thing that my NAB says.

I also have the New Living Translation which I enjoy reading also…

I wish this blog was more interested in sharing Bible Studies instead of debating on who’s Church was here first. I always thought Church meant people that were Christians.

Lura, Far be it from me to drum up business for the Roman Catholic Church, but please don’t take what you read here to be reflective of the vast vast majority of Roman Catholics. This is a very ultra conservative site with very ultra conservative posters as the norm. Most parishes do not reflect this type of congregation at all. I would urge you to visit a local parish for Mass and see for yourself before making a decision.

I am not Roman Catholic, having left that church for the Episcopal Church. While I am very very happy there, it is not our manner to denigrate others or to promote our faith tradition. We are a welcoming community period. There is much good in the Roman Catholic Church, many many fine people and clergy and religious. The same is true for many many other denominations of Christendom. Only a fair visit around to various churches can help you discern which one is right for you. God will no doubt guide you if you keep an open mind.

I dunno. At some point, if most of the members of a group behave in a certain way, you have to ask yourself “Do I want to be a member of that group?”.

Oh gosh, just to chime in here… I doubt even if you try really hard, you will ever meet “most” of the members of any group and certainly NOT on the internet.

Please, do not think that this forum is an accurate representation of ANY of the faiths, religions, or other groups named here. This is but a smidgen of all that is out there, good and bad.

There are so many wonderful people who are NOT sitting at their computers today who would wish you Peace and many Blessings on your Journey to a full communion with Christ!

I have been following along in this blog to see if I should turn to the Catholic Church. But after reading how some of the Catholics are on this blog , I am now not so sure.

I have been going to Church of Christ Church, not Universal, just COC and have been disappointed on how smug they can be towards others Faiths. They think that they are the only ones going to heaven and that the rest of the world is going to hell. I felt that they were a tad judgmental and just did not seem right to me.

Because I was raised Catholic since I was a child of 10yrs old. I was baptised, went to confirmation, etc. But then at 19yrs of age I married and stopped going to church for a very long time. For the past 10yrs or so, I have been to Baptist Churches, NonDenominationls, and coc. But now my heart is telling me that I need to get back to my roots which is Catholic. My husband of course was raised Baptist, and he has no desire to learn about the Catholic Faith. So now I am confused and searching within my inner being on which way to go.

My husband was baptised as a child. And he told me that as a teenager he chose to do it again. I guess he thought he had to do it again because he sinned. But he is now going to coc…

So we both are guilty of not being regular church goers…Now that we have moved to rural Arkansas, in the Bible Belt, he has choses to go to church pretty regulary but it is coc

“Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I** will shew thee my faith by my works**” James 2:18.
James 2:24 doesn’t mean that works justify us with God.
Man say’s, ‘‘show me the reality of your faith.’’ The only way to do this is by good works.

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast. Ephesians 2:8-9
Christ is the only way, he did it all.
Good works are to back up a persons testemony, to show they are really saved.
If you are relying on your good works and not wholly on Christ, you will fail.
When people rely on works to save them, they are saying what Jesus Christ did was not enough, but it was and is enough.

He is the only way and no ‘‘church’’ will save you.
Satan will tell you that good works and regular church going will save you, but dont be fooled, it will only send you to hell.
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Again, true. P.S., don’t go into the politics forum. People there can get pretty nasty. It’s one thing to be unhappy about a pro-abortion president; it’s another thing to throw around racial slurs, conspiracy theories and ideas about a civil war. Certainly the opposite of what I see at my faithful Catholic parishes. Some people here even insult Pope John Paul II for being a “liberal”.

It is contained in the 3rd commandment of keeping the Sabbath holy. This is a Catholic forum, and while not attending Sunday service for you may not be serious, to Catholics, not attending Sunday mass is a serious matter.
From your perspective, you may not understand why, and I will respect that. From a Catholic standpoint it is our essential participation in the one sacrifice of Christ on Calvary.

This is a Catholic forum, and while not attending Sunday service for you may not be serious, to Catholics, not attending Sunday mass is a serious matter.

Are you picking a religion based on what you think is the truth, or on how friendly you think the adherents are?

FWIW, you won’t be worshiping with anyone on the forums–Catholic, Baptist, or Lutheran.

Why don’t you visit churches irl to get a real (in reality not in virtuality) feel for what worshiping at each place would be like?

I think, though, that you should be chosing a faith based on what the truth is, not on which church serves the best coffee an’.
