thanks but no thanks. I simply told the friend who suggested I attend with her, that I was obligated to attend Easter Mass in a catholic church, and moreover, that I didnt think that as a catholic, it is permissible for me to attend such a service.

Of course, to miss Mass would be a mortal sin, but maybe I was wrong to say that it wasnt permissible for me to attend such a service. I guess that I could have went for the sake of curiosity.

I’ve been to a few interdenom. services (when I was a Protestant) and they’re basically Protestant in style…

You could have attended, but not in place of the Catholic Mass. I would have passed also, nothing is like Mass on Easter Sunday!

Non-denominational or interdenominational services, whaterver you choose to call them, are indeed watered down. I have grown up in the South for the most part and have attended many services like this one and for me non-denominational services are the pop-culture of Christianity. You might be better served going to a self-help seminar at least you would get a free lunch.

Interdenominational services remind me of Charlie Brown describing simplified classics for children “It is not unlike drinking dilute root beer.”
