Was it my imagination? Or was it?

I was at Mass today and after I received Holy Communion and I got back to my seat I started to pray as normal. While I was praying I heard these words come into my mind “Come to me or follow me”. I wondered if it was Jesus, whispering to me as I am currently trying to better myself at the moment and get closer to God. At the same time I wonder is it my imagination? I have heard of God speaking guiding people through prayer but I really don’t think I would be one of them. I am just not good enough. Anyone have similar things happen?

“Come follow me” are beautiful words. I would take God at His word and not question where these words came from.

I’ve had things like this happen a few times especially after receiving the Eucharist, especially during my discernment for the priesthood. There are times when I wondered is it real or not. More often than not, it seems it was truly the Lord speaking. One of my favorite biblical passages about this is 1 Kings 19:11-13:
And behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains, and broke in pieces the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice. And when Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave.
I find so often it’s in the tiny whispers that God approaches me and speaks to me. So rejoice and praise to Lord that He has seemingly drawn close to you.

We all are undeserving, truly not just some pious talk here, of the Lord’s guidance. But, the only way we can become holy is by Him guiding us. When I first starting discerning, I walked away from it. One main reason was I thought I was not good enough. I was such a wreak. How could I ever be a priest? And yet, to the best of my ability to understand the Lord’s will, that is what He is currently calling me to. Looking back over the past few years, it is amazing to see the graces He has given me that I might go and follow Him.

Pray to the Holy Spirit, ask Him for the strength and courage to follow Him where He is leading you. Ask Him where He wants you to follow Him. It truly is an amazing journey following where God leads.

Jesus chose St Paul to be his evangelist for Gentiles, while Paul was on his way in persecution of Christians. Jesus saw Paul as good for the job even while Paul was sinning.

When God speaks to us, it’s within the depth of our being, where as St Teresa of Avila says, is where God communicates best with us.

If the words are from God, you’ll know when certain doors are opened for you, and others are closed. In all, there will be a peace in the decision you make. The key is allowing the flow of divine life to come to you and accept come what may.

I had a similiar experience two years ago, I had just returned to church after a looooong hiatus, as the priest was partaking of the host, I distinctly heard a voice in my head say “welcome home!” God, or gaurdian angel, it was real enugh to me!

This saturday noght we sat across the nave from my favorite spot (where I was welcomed home…) didn’t feel right, and several people mentioned it to us after mass!

So, inspirational voices? Y E S !

No one is good enough, but God loves us far beyond our imagination and is calling us closer. 🙂

I think that happens more often then we may realize enough to give God credit. Not to long ago I was at my Holy Hour saying the Rosary, meditating on the second Sorrowful Mystery, The Scourging at the Pillar, and I said to myself. “Dear Lord why did you have to suffer that horrible beating, couldn’t you have skipped that at least?” And this male voice spoke in my head, “I did it for you!” It really left me profoundly sad and still brings tears to my eyes to think about it. It wasn’t my voice because I am a Lady!! God Bless, Memaw
