Was it Satan that I saw?

In my apartment complex we have designated parking spots, where I usually go for a cigarette; and directly behind these parking spots is a wooded hillside. I often stare into the woods, at night, searching for any creature that might be staring back at me. However I have never see any such creature; that is, until recently.

One night, a few weeks ago, I was relaxing in the car and thinking about God and Satan. Particularly I was thinking over a story that I am writing; and I was considering my hope that it might accomplish some degree of good, as a means of spiritual warfare. After spending a while in thought, I exited the car to have a cigarette; and there, in the darkness of the hillside, I saw a pair of eyes, staring at me. Even more, it was making a sound which I had never heard before, somewhat like a hiss.

Upon witnessing this, I immediately assumed it was Satan himself, letting me know, that he knows my intentions against him, in writing that story. I do not believe those eyes belonged to some freakish monster, but rather, I know it was a raccoon or some other animal. However, I believe that Satan, being a creature of pure spirit, went inside that animal, or influenced it, in order to convey his presence to me.

Am I just ignorant and superstitious, or even, mentally ill? Or is it plausible that it really was Satan that I saw? The timing of it all seems strange. I never see any animals at night; but the one time I do, it was right after a period of contemplation, concerning spiritual warfare and the fight against evil. Too coincidental.

Satan has been known to present himself that way. And we all know spiritual warfare is real. Some may disagree, but demons do have the ability to know what we are thinking. Your experience may have been as you suspect, or it may have been simply a passing animal. Even so, it’s always a necessity to be aware of the constant war in the spirit realm that is waging around us. Pray for protection, and carry on.

Yes, carry on and don’t give Satan a platform to stand on. The more recognition you give Satan the stronger he becomes. Don’t “Give the devil his due.”
At the same time be aware that there are many animal the have eyes that shine in the dark and hiss. Any animal of the cat family will do that and warn you to keep your distance. Owls and even deer can ‘shine’ in the dark soooooooo you better watch it when your out in the wilderness of your parking lot.

I agree. Demons can know what we are thinking. Our minds are like radio towers, broadcasting the signal that is our thoughts.

I am curious whether there is something written which excludes the possibility that I saw Satan. Like, for instance, perhaps it’s written that Satan cannot possess animals.

Anyways, what an experience. I tell you, I virtually ran inside, looking over my shoulder the whole time. The sound the creature made wasn’t a true hiss. It was salivating or something. It was a subtle sound, and I was fairly far away from it.

You know a Bobcat can sound just like a screaming woman in hideous pain and hiss also. One scared my sister right out of her shoes. I’ve been in places that are totally silent. I refuse to let my senses or fears rule me. When in fear invoke the name of Jesus or St. Michel. Punch Satan where it hurts-in his desire to control you. Pick your spot.

Demons can possess the bodies of animals.
Some distance from them a large herd of pigs was feeding. The demons begged Jesus, “If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs.” He said to them, “Go!” So they came out and went into the pigs, and the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and died in the water. Matthew 8:28-34

You’re not obliged to do spiritual warfare above resisting temptations to do evil and do good even when you suffer (which is the most powerful type of warfare) as far as I know, according to the Church. On the contrary I read many advises from priests who discourage reciting exorcism prayers or engaging demons out of sheer pride or to tempt God’s love for us. If you got scared I see no point in your “carrying this on” as others may have suggested.
Talk with your priest about your sudden urge to summon demons to defeat them.
The purpose of our life is finding salvation and deepen our relationship with God. If you feel like you have to fight demons it may be a thought coming from them and not a true calling.
May God bless you and illumine you and keep you safe.

You were thinking about scratchy and then an u,familiar sound at night came while an animal looked at you. Personally, I would chalk it up to a coincidence.

Opossums hiss.

Deer make a sort of snorting sound.

You saw an animal, part of God’s glorious creation.
