Some atheists even scholars have come up with the idea Christ was a apocalyptic prophet and not God, like Bart D. Ehrman who wrote Jesus: Apocalyptic Prophet of the New Millennium, is there any merit to this? They often quote Mark 13:30 where Jesus says, “Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place.” they also claim this was supposed to happen shortly after Christs death

He is both.

Yeah bart claims they thru His body in a dump, yet theres tons of proof contradicting that, and he thinks the apostles gathered for a couple weeks to discuss who Jesus was and ended up making up He was God

The Gospel of Bartholomew that the Muslims refer to?

Sounds more like Bart Simpson, it’s so crazy.
Ok. I posted the wrong title, so disregard. The Gospel of Barnabas is what is used by some Muslims. Bart means Bart D. Ehrman. He wrote books after convincing himself to abandon his conservative views of the Bible.

By that I mean dooms day would come soon after Christ
The theological mistake that the ancients made was that they overlooked Genesis 8:21 where YHWH states that He will never again wipe out humanity as He had just done. Note that 8:21 is simpler that a parallel statement in Genesis chapter 9 where a flood is mentioned. Verse 8:21 is a catagorical statement that does not limit itself to the means.

The conclusion is that the advent of “dooms-day” was not possible until the 20th century when mankind gained the ability to destroy himself. Descriptions of the Catastrophe found in scripture are consistent with the idea that it is a global nuclear war. It will not be YHWH that destroys the earth. Men will do that without His help.

I have come to bring fire to the earth, and how I wish it were blazing already.

Bart D. Ehrman
He lost belief because of doubt. He said in an interview that the many manuscript variations caused him to ask about God: “If he went to the trouble of inspiring the text, why didn’t he go to the trouble of preserving the text? Why did he allow scribes to change it?”

Note that he did not find an answer that pleased him.

Arnt the Gospels virtually the same as the orignals though, or is He talking about like the kjv and stuff?

My take on some of the topic brought up in the original post.

Was Jesus an apocalyptic messenger?
The Olivet Discourse appears to be a prophecy with serious apocalyptic overtones.
The sun will be darkened,
and the moon will not give its light;
the stars will fall from the sky,
and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.

At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and all the tribes of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory.
Did Jesus say this would happen soon?
Matthew 24:34 (along with the parallel passages and several other passages not part of The Olivet Discourse) say that some of those he was speaking to would see the signs he described happen.

Is Jesus God?
There are passages that state that he is, but specifically concerning this apocalyptic message it appears that he isn’t. First, we have to say that the prophecy he gave did not come true. The people that were living at the time did not see the signs that he gave. Deuteronomy 18:20 says that if some has even one false prophecy then he is not of God.
