Was Jesus All Knowing?

I guess not. Jesus didn’t know when is His second coming. Only the Father knows. That I can’t hardly understand. How can Jesus be God if He doesn’t know His second coming?

Jesus, as man, was not all knowing, He grew up, learned, but Jesus, *as God, *is all knowing, since He is God.

Jesus has two natures: Divine and Human, but He is one person.

I meant was there any Church teaching concerning it.
The Church teaches that Christ has two natures, divine and human. In his divine nature He is God and knows all. In His human nature he took on the limitations of being human, and as the gospel recoerds, he grew in wisdom and knowledge.

So his divine nature could keep things from his human nature?

Apparently. How this happens is part of the mystery of the Incarnation.
But wait a second. He specifically says that he does not know when the end of the world is coming. But his divine nature did know, so he would be lying, wouldn’t he? It’s not like his human nature and his divine nature took turns talking, so when he was saying he didn’t know, he was only referring to his human nature. If his divine nature knew, then he couldn’t honestly say “the Son does not know”, could he? He said the Son does not know. How is this possible?

Jesus is a divine person and as such is incapable of lying.

I don’ know.

That was my whole point. If he cannot lie, then the Son really must not know. And if the Son really does not know, he can’t be divine, can he?

Its not a lie, if in His Divine Nature He knows things which is not made known to this Human nature, that does not consitute a lie.

Since you are propose a contradiction where there can be none, I submit that you do not really understand what is meant by His statement.

But he specifically said the Son does not know. The Son would include his divine nature, so if his divine nature knew at all, then the statement “the Son does not know” would be false. Was it only his human nature talking when he said this? And if so, how many other times was only his human nature talking?

What do you mean there “can be none”? And what is really meant by His statement, then?

Jesus had an enlightened human mind that would not have been corrupted by sin of course. Christ had from the instant of conception already joined his soul to the beatific vision of God in the womb. But the human mind would not have experiential knowledge of all the soul knew except by consent for that information. My own personal line of reasoning is that we can assume that Jesus would not have willed to ask for intellectual cognition of anything that could compromise His mission on earth since some kinds of information and knowledge imposes a moral obligation to reveal it to others out of a social obligation “to the community”. Such conscious knowledge might also present a paradox to human reason if asked a direct question who’s answer might give an unfair benefit (or present a danger) to somone that gave a preference of one human over another in various scenarios. God must be fair in all things. In the same way if all knowledge from the beatific vision were permitted to be infused into the higher reason of human intellect it might cause severe anxieties or moods that would betray the human body’s capacity to moderate (a pending chastisement for example or the certain knowledge of every person who would die at every hour of the day). Can you imagine Christ’s human nature dealing with all that divine knowledge and not being overcome emotionally and physically incapacitated by sadness (yet He did just this at the passion when He took onto Himself all mankind’s sins - every one of them)?

New advent tells us:
*As to the experimental knowledge acquired by Christ, it must have been at least equal to the knowledge of the most gifted of men; it appears to us wholly unworthy of the dignity of Christ that His powers of observation and natural insight should have been less than those of other naturally perfect men. But the main difficulty arises from the question as to the extent of Christ’s knowledge flowing from His beatific vision, and of His infused amount of knowledge. *

Bottom Line: Yes and No - His soul had access to every thing of God the Father but his human intellect was disciplined to only what was necessary for His Mission and to keep Full Divine Knowledge from exceeding the capacity of human cognition. Jesus clearly could not be concerned with every aspect of every molecule or thing in the Order of Creation. 😉

So did the Son’s divine nature know when the end of the world was, or was it not allowed to know until after the Ascension?
