I was reading Isaiah 50:6 and it says, “I gave my back to those who beat me, my cheeks to those who plucked out my beard, My face I did not hide from insults and spitting.”

Was Jesus’ beard literally plucked out or was it meant to be he willing submitted to insults?

Thank you.

Is it possible that Jesus’ captors plucked out hair from his beard? Certainly its possible but this passage is not about literal fulfillment in that manner. The passage is speaking generally about being abused and insulted. To pluck out someone’s beard was a considered a particularly grave insult and the passage states that the servant will not respond to such insults. The passage is stating that the Jesus will willingly submit to abuse and insult in order to fulfill His divine vocation.
