Who was officially responsible for crucifying our Lord Jesus Christ?

Were it the Jews, the Romans? Or both

Not to be flippant, but I’m pretty sure the answer is yes. 😛

Crucifixion was a punishment administered by the Roman government. Their crosses, their soldiers, their execution. However, the Jewish leadership were the ones who handed Him over to the Roman authority and specifically asked for crucifixion. Really, both are responsible, our own individual guilt aside. But if you want to be specific, de jure it was the Romans, de facto it was the Jewish leadership.

EDIT: Changed “Jewish people” to “Jewish leadership”, thanks @JimR-OCDS

The entire human race was responsible.

However, the Jewish Hierarchy found Jesus guilty of blasphemy and pressured Pilate to have him crucified.

Both.

While the Romans officially carried out the execution, they did as such in order to throw a proverbial bone to the Jewish hierarchy

Officially the Catholic Church teaches that all sinners are responsible for the death of Jesus ,

As the Catholic Catechism teaches , “Taking into account the fact that our sins affect Christ himself, the Church does not hesitate to impute to Christians the gravest responsibility for the torments inflicted upon Jesus, a responsibility with which they have all too often burdened the Jews alone:.”

There are several types of causes for a given outcome, and I must confess that I did not fully absorb this particular part of the critical thinking course that I took. However, in the case of the crucifixion of Jesus, if one wants to see the ultimate cause, one need only look in a mirror.
