The Deacon read the Gospel today (Easter). He said “Jesus was hung on a tree”, not nailed to a cross!

Why can that be said in a Catholic Church? “Hung on a tree” and not nailed to a cross?

Dear Steph,

That wasn’t from today’s Gospel, it was from the first reading which is from the Acts of the Apostles 10:34, 37-43.
In is St. Peter says: “They killed him finally, ‘hanging him on a tree,’ only to have God raise him up on the third day …” St. Peter is testifying that he was there an saw Jesus. He is not denying that Jesus was crucified. “Hanging on a tree” is not to be taken literally. It’s a matter of poetic license.
