I apologize if this is not posted in the appropriate place.

I just had a conversation with someone very close to me who stated their belief is Jesus was not also God, that he was just a man. This person is a self-proclaimed Baptist, but knows almost nothing about Baptists. It is as if beliefs are created on the fly.

I spoke to this person several times before and everything I have provided just has not made an impression, so I told this person I would go to outside sources and thought before I start doing my own research I would see if anyone had a readily available and reliable source (paper or article or something, even a book) handy I could use to get started. I only ask because I am certainly no apologist and if someone who is has already done this, I am certain that persons work is much better than anything I can do. If nothing is suggested I will just have to rely on my own abilities to do this.

Thank you!

“Was” is the wrong world, “is” is the right one.

It can be difficult to make someone see the truth if he/she have a own vision of that truth, and as Pontius Pilate did say, “what is the truth?”. The best source you can use is The Bible. All you need is there, and because The Bible is the book of truth, what you or anyone else read there is true, it was true, it is, and it will be until the end of time. So tell him/her what it is in The Bible.

I believe the Scriptures make it clear enough. Isaiah said that the Messiah would be called
El Gibbor (God Almighty), Jesus is credited as the Creator in texts such as Colossians 1,
John 1:1 makes it clear that Jesus as the Word being Eternal, for in the Beginning (howev-
er far back you wish to push it) the Word already WAS, existing before time, existing WITH
(Face to Face) Ton Theon (The God; The Father).

Isaiah spoke of God as “The First and The Last,” Jesus in Revelation said of himself (with-
out saying “Thus says the LORD”) “I am the First and the Last.” Yes men are called gods
like judges and prophets, like when God sent Moses as “God to Pharaoh,” but what other
person aside from Jesus ever said, “…before Abraham was, I AM,” (John 8:58)?

And what about when Zechariah QUOTED YHWH as saying, “…and they shall look
upon me, whom they have pierced: and they shall **mourn for him **as one mourn-
eth for an only son, and they shall grieve over him, as the manner is to grieve for
the death of the firstborn,” (Zechariah 12:10).
