Was Jimmy Stewart Mormon?

Hi everyone.
I was watching TV and saw a commercial from LDS for a Jimmy Stewart Christmas movie. Apparently it was made years ago for TV and now it is the LDS church has the rights to distribute it. I got online and checked the story line out and it seemed mostly generic Christian story about finding the Christmas spirit movie, but it also includes him directing the Mormon tabernacle chior in a dream sequence. Also the commercial showed him in a dream state walking through a misty wood which I assumed was a flashback to Joseph Smith “recieving” the book of Mormom. Does anybody else know if Jimmy Stewart was mormon or if he just did this movie. I have not seen the movie, but here is a link to the title…Mr. Krueger’s Christmas.

Jimmy Stewart was Presbyterian. I saw what you saw and had the same question.

I just saw it a couple of weeks ago and highly recommend it to get into the Christmas spirit. To my knowledge, Jimmy Stewart, bless his heart, was not a mormon. There is nothing in the short video that refers to mormonism besides the choir, which only sings well known Christmas carols. There is nothing about Joseph Smith. Just Mr. Krueger going to some of his happy places through frequent day-dreaming.

LDS, indeed! And even better than being Presbyterian, he was a Brigadier General in the United States Air Force Reserves. At a Hollywood gala held in Stewart’s honor toward the end of his life, General Omar Bradley, from his wheel chair, saluted General Stewart and brought a tear to every eye in the house!
 
He wasn’t, he was a fan of the Mormon Tabernacle choir, and he did the movie just to be able to lead the choir. Same with Walter Cronkite, who did a tv special with them before he died. This movie is one of my favorite Christmas movies, along with the Bishops Wife.

Walter Cronkite would be very surprised to learn that he had died. He’s alive and kicking.
 
thats funny, I swear someone told me he had died. Sorry Walter!..the rest was true though…I did see him on a christmas special 🙂
 
Jimmy Stewart plays a lonely old guy who lives on the basement floor of an apartment building as the handy man for the apartment building. His wife died and now he is attempting to get into the spirit of christmas when suddenly some carolers coming walking by his window. He bangs on the window to get them to notice him because he wants them to visit and sing some christmas songs.

One child in the carroling group somewhat invites him along to sing some songs. And he goes. The story progresses from there.

Jimmy had nothing against the lds church because he saw it as a good thing. He agreed to make the movie. It was an lds production.
