I thought I would brave some condemning posts on fb by some Protestanrs who were fb friends whom I don’t actually know. I started with things like don’t judge, God is love , dont focus on his wrath etc. Then it all turned into how I believe in false doctrines and it’s an abomination , and pretty much condemning me to hell. Sorry to say but is not God the only judge?

Well, I think it’s a lot easier to condemn someone to Hell over the internet than in person. Catholic Answers Forum is an exception, but all you’d have to do is stroll over to Youtube or read the comments below any news article you read online, and people type things that they would never say to someone’s face… even if they were thinking them.

Anyways, definitely pray for those anonymous persons. And pray for all Protestants who are of the “condemning people to Hell” varietal. Pray that the Holy Spirit would lead them to the Catholic faith. … or just to experience God’s love in whatever Church they’re currently in…

Yes. But their condemnation comes from misunderstanding and misinformation. 🙂
Don’t let them get to you. You know what is true.
Maybe they’re not such good friends.
:coffee:

Yes I get the feeling they are more interested in being right than in sharing Gods love

They can’t condemn you to Hell; they don’t have that authority. They can wish you in Hell, but that isn’t Christian.

And they can engage in productive and polite debate, but that doesn’t involve calling each other “abominations.”

True. I think they have failed to read the Catholic Catechism regarding the matter.
Actually the worse are the one’s who read the Catechism and interpret it literally without the true meaning which the Church provides.

My friend is such a person. He’s literally been banned from going on retreats at monasteries, because of his arguments with the retreat masters.

Matt 5:11-12
Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you [falsely] because of me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven. Thus they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

All we can do is pray for these people to be more focused on Gods love

I’m sorry that happened to you.

It can be hard sometimes to find folks to really discuss differences and not condemn right off the bat. How old were these people? Age can play a factor, as can surroundings. They prob felt ‘powerful’ and ‘in control’ b/c there were more of them than you. Not right, but it happens.

They might not be familiar with defending their faith, and attacking was the only way they knew.
Or, they just could be angry, bitter people that refuse to be kind and have a rational discussion, even if it leads to agreeing to disagree.

Shoot, I can find it hard to find other BAPTISTS to chat with rationally, let alone those of differing practices, lol. Just do your best and SHOW them that you’re not like they claim.

Sometimes, that’s the best you can do.

Remember that most of them are very sincere in their belief that you are going to hell. They would love to convert you to “Whatever they are” and save your soul.

The first few times this happened to me I was offended. But then I found those that were really concerned and I could take a deep breath and ask why and who have you been talking to about my salvation.

I am very sorry you went through these things. It is common for Catholics to endure such hostility, sometimes from their own families. If they disturb your soul, perhaps it is best to avoid these people. I got much hostility when I became a Catholic 50 years ago, when I was a student at a Protestant college, and even since them. I realized finally that the best thing to do is to pray for their good. Jesus said we should pray for enemies (and to forgive them too).

You could always invite them to Mass next Sunday so they can see what a real chuch service looks like. That is an attention getter that never misses. Then next, explain Mary.

Just a helpful thought.

Will pray and offer sufferings. Especially the suffering of enduring condemnation.
I deleted and blocked these people on facebook

I converted to the Catholic faith. I had been a fundamentalist and had gone to a fundamentalist Bible college.

One of my former classmates, upon learning that I was now Catholic, called me a papal idolator. I literally laughed out loud.

Folks, there is a lot of anti-Catholicism out there. It’s so important that we read, study and know our faith (and with the Year of Faith starting today, what a great time to begin!).
