Definition of Dormation of the B.V.M. in my Catholic Encyclopedia says,

" Dormation refers to the falling into sleep, rather than death, of the Blessed Mother. Also, this term is sometimes applied to the Assumption."

The 1917 Catholic Encyclopedia states that Mary died this was the traditional teaching until recently.

I was taught in Catholic school that she was assumed into Heaven body and soul … I was not taught that she died first.

I went to school in the fifties the sisters taught that Mary died.
I do believe that she did not die is a recent teaching as evident by the Encyclopedia from 1917
