This question is from a discussion in the ‘Can Mary be sinless and intercede for you’ thread. Have been reading Romans and am trying to understand the soteriological steps in Mary’s journey to heaven, and came to a problem in that Mary being free from original sin had no ‘old self’ (Ro 6:6, Eph 4:22, Col 3:9) which could be crucified with Christ (Gal 2:20). So was wondering, was Mary crucified with Christ? If so, what ‘part’ of her died in that crucifixion and what ‘part’ of her remained. Was she baptized into Jesus’ death? Thanks for your help.

reference to Galatians above in post 1 is Gal 2:19 instead of 2:20.

First, she was the only follower who was there from day one to the crucifixion. She suffered as only a mother could watching her son go through that, but she had something else that hurt: she KNEW he could stop it with a word. She knew that he CHOSE that aweful death.

Catholics do not teach that she did not need a savior. She was saved the instant she was conceived, as she would be the Theotokos.

AS to he baptism, there is no certain answer. We assume that the 12 were baptised, and we might be able to say that all of Jesus’s followers were. IN any event, she was in the Upper Room on Pentecost and received the same Holy Spirit as Peter and the 12.

Simeon’s prophecy was that Mary’s heart would be pierced. The Immaculate Heart of Mary reveals how Mary was “crucified” with Christ. Her heart was pierced.

So she died with Christ in that piercing/crucifixion? What ‘aspect/part’ of her died? her ‘old self’? Something had to have died with Christ on the cross if she was crucified with him…I don’t know…

Jesus was the fruit of Mary’s womb. (Luke 1:42) Your profile says you’re male, so obviously you are not a mother. As a mother, I imagine if my child ever went through an experience such as the Crucifixion, a part of me would die with my child.

In addition to the many titles bestowed upon Mary by the Church,we also refer to the Mother of God as Our Lady of Sorrows. Please google the seven dolors of Mary.
