Abraham was an Israelite and his son Ishmael was according to muslim tradition an ancestor of Muhammad. So was Muhammad an israelite?

Also how is it a proof for muslims that mohammad was a prophet if the bible and torah say that there will be another prophet in the future? Muhammad could of search theTorah(he had a Jewish wife i believe) and the bible and just say i am that prophet that will come. Muslims have no proof other than Muhammad words that he was that prophet.

No he was not an Israelite.

His wife was not Jewish.

Mohammad is a prophet because he said he was - therefore making him a self proclaimed prophet.

Please be specific.

Nowhere in the NT does it say that another prophet will come in the future.

Timi,

An Israelite is anyone who is of the lineage of Jacob nicknamed Israel. So, Abraham and Isaac are not Israelite, because they are the fathers of Israel, not the sons or of the lineage of Israel.

If Muhammad was indeed of the lineage of Ishmael, son of Abraham, then Muhammad would be an Ishmaelite, not an Israelite.

Muhammad was not a true prophet regardless of what Muslims say. The last true prophet who prepared the way was St. John the Baptizer.

God bless,

Abraham was the father of Ishmael and Isaac (and a bunch of lesser known sons). Isaac was the father of Esau (aka Edom) and Jacob (aka Israel).

The Arabs claim, I think, to be descended from the ancient Ishmaelites (descendants of Ishmael) and, at least some of them, also from the ancient Edomites (descendants of Esau and through him from Isaac, but not Jacob).
