Was my baptism valid?

Hi everyone, I have been questioning my baptism for quite some time. I wonder if mine was considered valid, and if it wasn’t then what should I do? Let me explain my case:

I was baptized at the age of 16 when I was in high school. I came from a Buddhist family but my mom had converted into Roman Catholicism before I was born. Since I was very little I had always identified myself as a Catholic although I didn’t get baptized during my infancy. I enrolled into catholic schools from kindergarten up to high school, where the religion classes were pretty significant. So often I got jealous that my friends were able to get up and receive the Eucharist and I wasn’t during masses. So at the age of 16 I asked a senior pastor (who belongs to Societas Verbi Divini) at St. Joseph Parish near my house to baptize me, he then asked if my parents (esp. my father) allow me to be a Catholic, I said yes even though I never asked because I was afraid that he will refuse my request (he’s pretty anti-Christian) So I got baptized after only 3 months as a catechumen in opposed to a whole year required (he probably thought that I was eligible enough since I went to Catholic school my whole life, and I have a rather decent knowledge in Christianity because I aso went to Sunday School). I was baptized with water and took the name Adrian (St. Adrian / Pope Adrian III)

Was my baptism invalid because it was based on a lie, and I didn’t spend the required time in my catechism?
 
Your baptism is valid. Baptism removes all sin, original and personal. So, let’s say that your lie was indeed a sin (which I doubt that it was) it would have been remitted through the waters of baptism. Baptism is valid with proper form and matter which seems to be the case here. Now, if you were to sin then you can avail yourself to the beautiful sacrament of reconciliation. So, enjoy your being a validly baptized Catholic and the sacramental life of the Church. Happy Easter and God bless you!!

This does not impact the validity of the sacrament, and any sin involved would have been forgiven in baptism. Also, at your age, permission of your parents really was not necessary. You were old enough to ask for baptism yourself.

There is no “required time” in catechism. Your pastor has full authority to determine when you are ready to receive the sacraments.

It’s such a relief to know that my baptism is valid. I was baptized 3 years ago and being a Catholic changed my life in so many different ways, I couldn’t ask for more.

At 16 you are old enough to do lots of things on your own. You can drive and shoot a gun in many places, smoke and drink in some, get married and join the army in others. In some you can choose to leave school and even live on your own.

So parental permission was not really something that was required for your baptism.

What happened after you were baptised though? Did you tell your parents? Did you go tk Mass? How did they react?
