Was my confession valid in this case?

In one of my confessions, the priest asked me if I had lied. I couldn’t remember if since last mass I had or not (considering that in mass, venial sins are forgiven). For a moment I thought I could have committed this sin, but again, I didn’t know if it was after last mass. I didn’t want to make him wait too long for the answer so I said “no”.
Now, I’m wondering: what if I had lied? Would my confession be invalid?

The person best disposed to help you here would be the Priest who heard your confession. You are asking a bunch of people who weren’t there.

I know you said you haven’t been diagnosed as a scrupulant, but your posting history looks like that may very well be the case. You seemed to be in a constant state of doubt regarding sin.

This. Talk to your priest. It is better not to post these kinds of questions here, as that will not help you form your conscience. The forum will become a crutch that enables you in your desire for validation.

To be honest, I do think you’re right. And actually, I think I’m worrying about it too much, because as long as I can remember, I wasn’t trying to deceive the priest, so maybe I’m just worried for nothing…

Thank you all!

One important thing is not to second guess your Confessions. Or replay them in your head in minute detail. I am a scrupulant myself, so I know what you are feeling and this is so harmful to your mental and spiritual health. As the Priest says during the Absolution prayer: “May God give you pardon and peace”. Listen to the Priest and not your doubts and fears.

We agree with Father Edward George. Best to talk to your priest confessor on these matters.

And since you’re still not sure you even lied, it’s not as likely that it was grave matter. Deliberately not disclosing a known mortal sin would invalidate a Confession, but nothing short of that. Finally, when you conclude your Confession, you can always says, “And for all those sins that I cannot now recall.” That’ll help put your mind at ease.

Again, thank you all for your answers! I’m now a lot better. Every single one of you helped me in a different way… Thanks!
