I was on my way to confession and saw the visiting priest leaving the church. I asked about confession. He said we could do it right here. So I confessed my sins. He gave advice, penance and absolution. He did not ask for my act of contrition. I said it later. Also, I don’t know if it matters, but he wasn’t wearing a stole.
THANKS

You’re fine. Be at peace and be thankful for God’s mercy.

Your confession was valid. It need not take place in a church (it could take place at the roadside, in hospital, anywhere in fact) and although it is normal for a priest to wear his purple stole its absence does not remove the priest’s capacity to absolve you from your sins, since that is bestowed upon him by virtue of his ordination and the faculties granted to him by his Bishop.

You got validly forgiven. You’re fine.
