Was my confession valid?

I went to confession yesterday, and I confessed a mortal sin which I didn’t do for some time and haven’t confessed for a slightly shorter time. I confessed the sin, told the number, but was dishonest at one point. I said I resisted the desire to do it when I didn’t. I don’t know why I said it - I’m very comfortable with Father and he’s very kind - but after Mass today I felt that my confession was invalid. Was it?

Deliberate deception can invalidate the Sacrament in part or in whole. I would simply suggest that you go back to confession at your first opportunity and bring this to confession so you’re not troubled by it anymore. If you judge that you did wrong, then, unless you have serious problems with scrupulosity, you probably did wrong.

Be honest with yourself.

This really is a question for a priest to answer. I would post this on the “Ask an Apologist” forum or send Father Serpa a private message directly. Asking laypersons is not the best approach in resolving this kind of query.
