Was my confession valid?

Hello All,
This weekend I went to confession and I needed to confess a sin that I had not fully confessed at my last confession (I had forgotten to include the number of times that I had committed the sin - I am scrupulous and the circumstances made me question whether doing this was or was not a mortal sin). I proceeded to tell the priest that I had failed to confess my sin completely BUT I did not mention the sin that I had not fully confessed. I, for some reason, decided at the moment to see if the priest was going to mention that I should confess the unconfessed sin before doing so. He did not and I continued with my Act of Contrition but I realized that I should have told him the unconfessed sin - I felt a bit awkward doing so after the priest had given me my penance, however. I left the confessional and then decided to go back in and I confessed my unconfessed sin and received absolution. Now, was my first confession valid? If not, was my second confession valid? Do I need to go to confession again before I can receive Communion? I left the confessional the second time believing that I had been forgiven for the sins I had confessed but now I’m just not sure if I was forgiven and can move on or if I need to re-confess my sins.

It was valid, you were absolved, get over it, go to Communion.

Others have already said you can go to communion fine, but I think you should try to be less scrupulous. You don’t need to say the number of times you committed a sin, all your confessions were valid. Scrupulosity can be harmful.
 
Shoot-I don’t often remember from day-to-day my activities-good and bad. I try to say how many times in confessional yet most times, I am unable to remember the specifics so I just say, for example: I said the Lord’s name in vain approximately five times give or take three or several times, not sure of the number and that seems to work with my priest. 🙂

Mortal sins need to be named and quantified in some way. Approximations are sufficient.
 
You mention you struggle with scrupulosity…you should have a regular confessor.

All this should be discussed with ones confessor…

He can guide you…
 
To build upon Bookcat’s post -

If you are scrupulous, you should never ask someone else’s opinion regarding such matters except your regular confessor. This includes, parents, friends or a priest you run into on the street.

It’s extremely important that you talk to one priest regularly and that’s it. Best of luck to you!
